I was driving along the highway a couple of nights ago only doing about 90(pissing down with rain) when i found myself spining around and crunching into a guardrail. The only thing i can think of that happened is the back wheels have turned without warning (only needed to be a slight turn due to speed and wet road to lose control) Has anyone known of the HICAS malfunctioning like this to them or someone else? the same thing happened to a guy i knew in an r32 gts-4 a couple of years ago with the same result... I had noticed the car was unstable hitting small bumps on the road a for the past few weeks. Guess I should have got it checked out sooner.
omg ive never heard of it happening but thats nasty, looks like alot of work to repair the pannels, are you going to try? hope it turns out well if you do
Not sure what to do yet. Assesing whether to buy another cheep Z with a blown engine or take what i can get for this one and go from there.
You had some pace up there mate! thats heavy impact damage! i dont think your hicas is the cause off that, sorry to see it dude!
I think beaver is right ,It looks more like right foot failure than hicas. But sucks just the same hope its not to hard to fix
nah, definately wasn't speeding, wasnt even under power when it happened. I was only doing 90 in a 110 zone...
More likely... ...there was some oily crap on the road. I've got 10"s on the rear so I really slow it down whenever it rains, and I've found a few oily patches that have sent me sideway. Jeeez I hate looking at bent and destroyed Z's. tough break. Good luck with the fix, could swap everything onto a Z with a blown motor and still have parts for sale. Egg
My car used to wander a little in the rear. Turned out the the rear hicas inner tierods were very worn.
Perhaps that is something I need to check also. I go across painted lines on the road at 50 in the wet, and my car jumps sideways.
If your HICAS light comes on when ur ignition is in the on position you should definately get it checked out. such a shame to lose such a nice Z, definately dont want to see another one looking the same from the same reason..
Really sorry to see the mess your car is in, and happy to know you are OK, but I think you're way off the mark blaming it on the HICAS Steering. The HICAS system CANNOT turn the wheels without a significant input from the steering wheel. Any such input at 90kph in the rain, would be far more likely to cause a spin, than a faulty operation of the HICAS. I think you need to look elsewhere for an excuse for this prang. I'm not trying to shoot you down, but I would want to see some solid proof of the HICAS claim, before I would give it any credence at all.
If that was an insurance job. They would write that car off dude. There is about 15-18K of damage at least on that car.
your rear ball joint was farked thats why u were losing it whenever u hit a small bump you must have hit a bump, it wiggled the rear end, which sent you into a spin because of the wet you have to keep the car maintained to a safe level, and tyre grip is the highest priority sorry to see it dude... good luck
matts spot on.. my inner tie rod on the passenger side just off the hicas steering rack was badly worn.. caused the rear passenger wheel to follow any rut in the road rather than the direction the car was pointing.. was very unnerving at 60 and down right scary at 80.. was like it when i bought the car.,.i tracked the problem down and fixed it before driving it again (before i even licenced it) its just down right dangerous.. your mad for continuing to drive the vehicle after you recognised instability over bumps previously lessons to be learnt.. atleast your not hurt.. car can be replaced.. in the wet i would have definately lost control
