just bought an auto TT with a leaky turbo - unsure if rebuild or replace is needed here.

The car comes with a replacment charger however I havn't seen it yet.

Now.. given its only the balance tube that connects the intake paths between the two turbos - I expect its not a really good idea to have different sized turbos (unless the intercooler combined the intake gases before splitting off to the TB's)

Any advice on this one? What if its not a match to the other side... I expect 3 cyls run lean... not good

The A/R will be stamped on the inside of the exhaust scroll so you can check if they're the same. You can just swap the exhaust housing if you need to, the wheels are the same.

oh good to know! Are the unis thrust or ball bearing? I was told yoinking a BB apart can ruin it.

270 degree thrust. You don't need to disassemble the core, just pop the rear housing off.

So is the only difference between auto and manual factory turbos the exhaust housing?

the chargers themselves? apparently yes, just the rear housing... the auto engine also has different cams.

    pmac Z,, IT'S COMPLICATED!!!!!

It's only the auto N/A engine that has different cams.

Other way, auto TT has different and the other three are the same.

And yeah, turbo difference is just exhaust A/R, a bit larger on the manual.
