My window is up. How do I remove my door handle/ lock barrel? I need to take it to get a new key cut. Is it possible to remove without taking door card off? Or does that need to be removed? Any help would be appreciated thanks. I'd use the search function but my laptop was stolen along with both sets of my car keys and I'm sure you can imagine how limited browsing the forum on an iPhone is
door card has to come off and window has to be down to get to the screw that hold the door piller interior trim on. Window has to then be up again to remove 2 x nuts that secure the door handle through the outer door skin. They either practically fall out, or are a nightmare. Exercise extreme caution as you have to keep an eye of all edges of the handle when removing, and the internal mechanism once its exposed, or else you'll scratch your paint.
Wonderful. Is there any way I'm able to get the window down/ up without a key? And without a battery for that matter... Do you know if the code that I need to have a key cut is on the ignition barrel by any chance? And how difficult is that to remove?
Yes door card has to come off to remove the lock. Not sure but I think you dont need to take the lock out to get a key cut to match. I assume you dont have the lock number from the keys or never wrote it down? Not sure if the lock number is written anywhere in the car or on the back of the locks themselves, someone else might be able to answer that - but see a locksmith if no one can help you out here and ask them if they can cut a key without the lock being taken out - I'm think they can do it.
I never had an original key to begin with unfortunately. I've heard a 4 digit code is in the glovebox somewhere? I can't find anything. I did call Nissan though and the guy said they don't have records to any of the codes for imported vehicles
Call a locksmith- they will either: a) open your car door and ignition enough for you to get the window up / down to get barrel out b) build a key off the existing barrel I've seen option B done in the past, they use a key and twist it in the lock, look for the impact marks of the pins on the key metal, then file the key to suit. Takes a long time to get right.
Once you get the door card off unplug the window motor from the door loom. Conect a battery to the two terminals to drive it up or down. Reverse the polarity for direction.
Just called a locksmith. $200 for them to come out and cut a key for me. On top of the $389 I have to pay tomorrow for installation on a new immobiliser, I think I'll pass on that option. $28.80 if I can take a lock barrel to them. None of that means anything to me sorry, but thanks for the suggestion
cant get door card off without winding window down. Door pillar has to come off, the top bolt of which is only accessible when the window is down.
never had to get a key cut, but hatch barrel will be the easiest to remove, provided it has the required coding on it
Yep. Something I've learnt previously. I've always had 2 different keys to doors/ignition and hatch. Just to throw another spanner in the works! I'm about ready to set fire to the bloody thing and claim insurance on it!! That would be far less of a headache than this bullshit
No members in WA parting out a Z with a full lock set? Ever since the release of the GZA titanium duplicates, even OEM titanium keys with locks have gone down in price 2nd hand. Ignition will naturally take priority. Bit of a trick to it, but quite easy. If your paint is relatively presentable, would suggest getting perhaps Chris to change out the door lock barrels..... or have something handy to throw in the opposite direction when you get frustrated. Chin up, having read your build thread, the hardest is behind you.... for a while
That was my original plan, to change the whole lock set, but not really any help when I can't get the locks off to begin with. I'm having a bump alarm installed at the same time as immobiliser so I figured that would illiminate the need for new locks, hence removing this barrel to have a new key cut. Ah yes this seems to be just my luck really. Finally having the car running and no way to start it *le sigh*
black/yellow goes to the - and red one goes to + BUT you have to put them on this way to avoid sparking to connect them - red on first, then black to disconnect them - black off first then red off
This works ive just done it now to my car (no keys in ignition door card still on) if you've removed the drivers door switch look in the opening and you will see a black connector with a green wire and blue/ white stripe wire that towards the front of the openingand 60mm down there the motor power wires. you need to unclip it from the metal bracket then pull it towards the opening so you can unplug it. This is the fiddly bit. Once unplugged jam your wires into the plug with the two pins and connect the other ends to the battery. change the wire your touching to the battery around if its trying to go up when it already is. Going out to try Romonski's method now
oh fk i didnt read this properly, my mistake. Should be able to chuck the battery in its spot in the engine bay. Undo the steering wheel covers, find the ignition barrel screws, unscrew it and pull it out to disconnect it from the ignition module. Then u can use a phillips head screwdriver/long nose pliers to turn the ignition on. If u cant disconnect the barrel from the module i got nothing.
