    Hi people,

As the title suggests, I'm approaching my first ever rego-renewal for my 300zx and it's the first time I've had a request for an inspection beforehand. Alfie's post says he failed his rego inspection due to leaky mufflers, so that's one thing I'll check (sorry about that mate).

So my question is, what check-ups do people normally do prior to a rego-inspection? Should I reinstall the stock airbox in case they see my pod filter? Just want to be prepared. Everything else is stock.

    Cheers :D

Dude its simple, clean underside of car and engine bay/engine (just allow it all to dry before taking it in). check tyres are good (no canvass showing on inside edges!), make sure nothing is hanging off the car (such as the exhaust) and nothing obvious is missing (eg: a wheel nut), check that your lights and horn still work, and that the handbrake will hold the car. If you have any oil leaks or any oil dirty parts such as an exhaust leak, clean it off before you go. They will fail you for a tear in the drivers seat, so get seat covers if there are any. They will fail you for frayed or ripped seatbelts, no way to hide that, would need replacment. Same goes for the windscreen, if it has a huge amount of damage they will fail you and the windscreen will need to be replaced.
Your car could be a complete POS and it should still pass as long as nothing obvious is showing because thats what they are looking for (like huge amounts of rust showing in the bodywork). The main thing they will check are the lights, horn and brakes. And if your car cant travel at 60kph without making horrible sounds or shaking badly etc its gonna fail obviouly. The only other thing that could be an issue is if your cars exhaust is massively loud (say from a huge tear in a muffler that you left open, or a loud aftermarket muffler). Dont worry about the pod filter, they dont look too hard and its well hidden.
You should already know if your car is safe to drive, so they might fail you for something that you didnt know was in need of urgent repair (like a dodgey tyre), but they are the type of things you would want to fix ASAP anyway.
