Finally got the sensor display system finished!its all boxed up and im just looking for a place to mount the display. was gonna make it a HUD on the windscreen, but its a little hard to read during the day. so im thinking of infront of the instruments, as the default screen displays coolant temp, speed and RPM ( is it illeagle to obstruct your view of the instruments???)im using the consult stuff to read from the sensors, and then graphing and displaying the stats. theres a keypad to adjust which stats are being graphed.first starting the car.
[image]http://www.cit.uws.edu.au/~luke/zpics/DSC00006.JPG[/image]revving it a bit, this shows the needle and the rev graph. as well as engine temp going up as the seconds go by!

[image]http://www.cit.uws.edu.au/~luke/zpics/DSC00008.JPG[/image]controller box containing micro-processor to control screen and read from the Z, currently mounted under the seat, but im thinking of sticking it under the weird lump things where the ABS actuator hides.

tried using a double mirror system...

.. works fine and is quite readable at night, however without putting a small piece of tint on the window, it is too hard to see during the day.

but to make it sit nicely you would need to cut some sort of hole in the instrument/dash hood and recess it a bit.

    Blipman Beer hooves totally work

    Likewise

that's an uber cool device right there, and I already have two other items in the car using the same VFD screen so it would look great combined with the other stuff!Ben

    the most expensive part

... is the VFD, its a 254X32 pixel one, works out about 4 x 40 lines of text in the normal font. its available from farnell for $225 AUD

the controller board is about $49USD http://www.zworld.com/products/bl1800/

    part is bl1820
would have to work out what the costs are for parts like the case and serial ports

but my guess is around $400-450   AUD.
(This includes the real-time display of all sensors accessible by conZult)

I still really need to find or get made a case for the VFD. not sure where to look for one.....

    That is very cool :YD

I'm wondering how long before someone replaces all 6 instruments (water temp, speed, boost, RPM, oil pressure and fuel) with a colour LCD screen.
Imagine having a controller that allowed users to either chose from a variety of instrument screen styles or configure their own design. That would be awesome.I realise there are quite a few issues to overcome but you seem to have conquered the biggest hurdle. Great effort Luke :YD

    That's insane. I love it. :D

any chance of being able to grab the software off you? I don't know how many people on this forum are into coding, but if you made it open source maybe quite a few people here could have some input :)Also, if you can get a price on a completed package I'd consider buying one directly off you if it's a viable option... Let me know either way...Oh yeah... Have you written the software to accomodate for different sized screens? Or just that size?Top effort mate }) :YD :-Z

    ^D^ Luke, why don't you ...

... start making these things en-mass?I know I'd buy one from you on the spot and by the looks, so would a lot of others here ...Put me down for one if you do build any more. That's EXACTLY what I've been after. It'd be cool if it could fit in the space left by the dud clock !!!

How about mounting the hardware and panel...

... in a spare DIN slot (if you have one), similar to the HKS DIN panels ?:[image]http://www.hksusa.com/images_products/L_1332.jpg[/image][image]http://www.hksusa.com/images_products/L_1333.jpg[/image]
