Hey guys, while most of you will see this thread and then my "for sale" thread you will think "WTF is this guy doing?", i'll tell you what i'm doing. Simply put if work picks up over the next few months the Z will be staying with me and either staying as a tough NA next to whatever i get next or doing a High comp turbo conversion which will also be documented in this thread :D. Also want to prove to a few people that the NA isn't as slow as you would think ;)

Basically ATM the plan with this car is basically to run a low 14/high 13 second pass while staying completely naturally aspirated so no nitrous/SC/turbo etc and while staying in street trim, so no stripping its guts out. Kinda want to do this just to prove it can be done and to stop people from calling NA cars slow, while they can't compete with a turbo $ for $, they do quite well for what they are.

    Here are the Specs:

    1990 Nissan 300ZX Z32 "Slicktop"
    1430kg
    131.4rwkw Dyno tested(previous owner)

    Mods:
    2.5" Unique Autosports Catback Exhaust
2.5" Custom Front Pipes w/highflow cats
    K&N Pod Filter
    Underdrive Crank Pulley
F1 Racing "stage 3" brass button clutch
    ECUtalk Consult Display Unit
    NA auto ECU

Bought the car back in 2009 with a 2.5" Custom catback, UDP, Pod & standard clutch. Was a very nice looking car, atleast to me, and the motor was in perfect nick so i decided to buy it.

From when i first bought it

Not long after i bought it did i have my first go at the dragstrip, here are some photo's

After 5 runs the best i could come up with was a pathetic 15.017 @ 97.22MPH :(. My clutch was slipping on anything more then a 2500rpm launch so i had to take off really easy.

About 5 months after that my clutch decided to call it quits, held up well for a stock clutch IMO. After looking for hours i decided on my new clutch, a "Gripforce F1" racing Stage 3 Button Clutch. Oh boy did this take some getting use to for the first day, soon as i picked up the car i got stuck in peakhour traffic! At the drags was chirping 3rd gear at 100KPH :D
    [IMG]

A good 1500k's had passed and the clutch had been well worn in i decided to have another crack at the drags, i HAD to get that 14 second pass!

Decided i would take it easy on my first run so i wouldn't stuff up, managed a 14.847 @ 95MPH first try! What was even funnier was that i had tried to select 4th but had trouble so i let off a bit before the finish line. Ok Second run, was really excited to see what i could get, time to see what it was capable of :D

    Timeslip, a 14.6!:

Not Bad considering a lot of first gear was wheelspin and i hit the rev limiter before the finish line! :D Rear tyres are chinese crap 235/45R17's and were set to 25psi during my runs.

Just last month i decided to run again, with no extra work done to the car managed a 14.585 second pass, a bee's d*ck off the fastest time for an NA

Mods coming up as an NA:
    1 Piece Lightweight Tailshaft
Decat Pipes for the track only
Piggyback Ecu of some sort, Either an APEXi SAFC or NIStune.
Looking at some MT Streets on stock Rims.

This is sort of a "Bare bones" NA build, basically i'm trying to get the time with as little work done to the car as possible so no extractors, no cams or anything like that. Looking to get that 60footer down to 2.1 - 2.0 to see what i can squeeze out of it, no internal work done standard heads & bottom end. I'm fairly confident it will pull a low 14 second pass after work has been done, just have to wait and see, will keep you guys updated! Only things i can imagine would hold me back are my wallet and my driving :D

May do a turbo conversion in there somewhere, we'll see ;)

Sounds good bro, rep that N/A flag!

But all the future mods you've listed come to a grand total of about 2-2.5k lol, not much of a build thread ;) best thing for you will be the MT slicks.

    Good luck non the less.

That's why i listed the high comp turbo possibility aswell, i have almost every part lined up ;). If i fall short of the times i'm after there'll be more to do but i'll unveil that as time goes on. Basically i want it to run quick as an NA, so when there's boost involved it'll be a complete animal ;) :D

A good set of extractors will give you a much more sueable power curve so I would not write them off yet.

What driveshaft are you going with? Also considered a light weight flywheel?

    Extractors
    Lumpy cams :p

Good effort I'm sure you will get a 13 second pass. In saying that get some slicks and extractors with 2.5" from there back. That will shave of half a second.
Then Selin kit, I realise the AFM is not a restriction to make peak power figures, though it will assist in acceleration/response. Along with a tune with some more timing will see impressive results.

Don't think the VG really lends itself to being a rev happy high RPM HP machine like the RB's. The motor is built around low/mid RPM torque. I think the high compression twin turbo solution sounds like the best plan.

    PF - 13's for $1300.

Sounds like a cool plan mate. Very best of luck with it all. Hot tip, talk to Dieseldave about his custom extractors he made for an NA zed. I believe it broke thd engine into the high 140-150kw range. Also second to this is Barry from Adelaide z cars. He also speaks of a 140-150kw na zed.

With the extra poke you'll get to your goal.

    :D

Need practice on your reaction time.
Wilth that ticket and an R/T of 0.708 you can get to the low 14s
lack of traction in first gear is also costing you.
If you can get your R/T times down to .3 or .5
Option of an electric power steer pump to reduce engine drag.

Thanks guys, more support for this then i thought! :D

Actually, R/T has no bearing on what time you will run. You can sit for 5 seconds and you'll still get the same time, the timer doesn't start till your car moves. As for the lack of traction, that's what the MT's will be for :) if i can cut a 2 sec 60ft then it should be in the 14.1-14.2 second range, the car has the MPH for it, seeing if i can pilot it to that time is a different story :br:

In no particular order, I'd invest in:

Bee-r limiter - Just makes it easier for launch
Dual intake - whether it be Selin or Doolz type
Electric Fan - Take a little more stress off the crank pulley
Electric PS pump - As above
MT ET Streets - No reason u couldnt crack a sub 2 sec 60ft with these warmed up (Make sure u do a decent burnout and get them smoking.)
Extractors - Should assist in better breathing and extra hp
Nistune + tune - Tune for 98 octane and pick up an extra few ponies (although maybe u have an aftermarket chip already)

    PM sent...

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

Why do you want to prove the NA thing so bad? Your full license has got to be pretty damned close by now.

No particular reason, its something fun to do IMO. Just like you want your zed slammed with wheels that don't fit properly :p Nah its something to keep me busy i guess.

Im actually really looking forward to the results! 13 secs for a NA is pretty quick. Hell, you'd beat half the TT's out there :p

Not really looking to beat TT's, just raise the bar a bit ;)

    Buy me an M3 then.

its funny when we ran our TT it had 236kw at rear wheels but the archilles heel of these cars is there massive weight so I just dont know how a N/A is going to crack a 13 sec as most good even TT between 13.3 and up to 14.5 and a 300Kw TT might get a high 12
