Hey guyz, I just put a new (second hand) motor in the zed, and DAYM it is blowing sooooo much WHITE smoke out the exhaust!!! Please can anyone help me out with any advice or info into why this is happening? It kills me to know i have just spend soo much money and I mite have not actually solved anything, but worse just caused a problem for myself! I want me baby back! Kind regards...
dunno maybe a coolant leak? head gasket? you would been safer buying my engine sorry to hear about that..
Did you compression test the motor? That would have showed a blown head gasket. Is it blowing under throttle or just while your idle?
Sounds like turbo seal. Before you put the new engine in, were the turbo's rebuilt/replaced, checked?
white smoke/blue tinge is oil.. if its all the time most likely rings (cracked or badly worn on old motor) could be turbo seals, pull dumps off and look for signs of oil, and intake piping head gasket smoke/steam your car would be overheating like a bastard and the smoke would dissapear into thin air as it rose up and evaporates.. oh and it smells like a wet cat, not burning oil.. easy to diagnose.. (think of a steam train haha) (and one more.. your radiator would be empty)
rings? Is it easy to repair the rings? or how much roughly would i be loooking at getting new rings, and usual installation? i don't think the radiator is empty, so i m hoping that its not the head gasket.. The guy i bought the engine off, he said he had put some oil in the pistons so that it wouldn't rust, and told me that when i put it in, it would smoke for a couple of weeks, but would it really smoke soooo much? this is sooo heart breaking...i m not happy at all...
K-zed I haven't driven it at all, the mechanic has driven it around the block a couple of times, and usually just leaves it turned on...but its not safe to leave it on during the day because of the amount of smoke that it produces...way to much smoke, and so he says "i will leave it on this arvo, so prolly stays on like between 10-20mins, 4 2 days so far... What do you reckon K-zed?
TaTake it for a BIG drive... get it hot & see... if smoke diminishes. Running under NO load does sfa.
dude!!.. if the engine has been sitting still and oiled up.,. take her for a huge drive.. @ 100ks n hour, accelerate, enjoy it.. it will still feel like a TT.. clean out the cobwebs.. if its still smoking check the turbo seals first, rings mean engine rebuild.. what was the turbos like on ur old engine? (or was this an upgrade?)
no no, i have a NA, no turbos in there guys, even the old 1 was a NA, hmmm, but do you think if i take her for a nice long drive it will be ok? i just don't think its legal to drive a car with that much smoke blowing thats all
Haha woops. It doesn't take much oil in order to create a LOT of smoke. Take it for a long drive like the others suggested and see if it clears up. Take it for a late night, early morning drive if you are worried about potential police attention and if they do pull you over, just explain the situation to them.
Yer take it for a drive like the others said, keep a close eye on the temp, any needle movement above normal temp should be treated with caution. If your luckly it may only be a the head gasket.
If he has oiled up the engine then he has probably done the right thing if was planned to be sitting for a while but it will take a lot more than a drive around the block to clear it. Usually, a good couple of hour drive will clear it bit if it is still doing it, the rings may well be shot. How long has this been happening? My advice, keep driving it and if it doesn't clear...seek medical advice......RINGS! Cheers John
Thanx for all the input guys, finally smoke situation is settled ( i think) well its not smoking abnormally anymore...but now my stereo, antenna, interior cabin light, boot cargo light doesn;t work and also my central locking don't work and the door open light stays on, which doesn't let my alarm arm... any ideas? cheers
All fixed and ready 4 action I just wanted to let everyone interested that I got my baby back today, in perfect working condition :zlove: :zlove: :zlove: Thanks to all with their input and opinions... cheers:zlove:
Glad to hear (read) that your probs are over. Seems to take forever to burn the oil out, doesn't it? What were your electrical problems related to?
