Just got another question guys and I appreciate your input. The rim repair shop wanted $70 per rim to polish. How should I go about doing it myself and what will i need? They're normally silver but all that brake pad dust (or whatever it is) is all over the inside of the rim and they look REAL dirty. Thanks in advance.
Are they stock wheels? If they are you can do as I do and use eagle wheel cleaner and a nylon brush, once most of the gunk is off you can use a rag and the cleaner to get at the more stubborn stuff (wear gloves and safety glass as the wheel cleaner is acid). For really tuff spots some steel wool works well, just make sure its the fine stuff and not stainless steel (rinse the soap out of them first with hot water). Tar can be removed with WD40 and a rag, can do this on paint work also as the WD40 disolves tar). For polished wheels dont use the steel wool or it will leave swirl marks and will need to be polished out with metal polish compound, though on the inside of the rim should be ok.
do not use steel wool on rims... it will scarch the shit out of them... acid based wheel cleaners are mainly used for company's who need to clean the rims in the lest amount of time... they are good but watch when you use it.. get a good wheel brush and cleaner and you should be right... just take your time and do the tyres and wheels first before you wash the rest of the car... can use products like Autoglym Mag Wheel Spray Meguiars Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner Kenco Tyre Contour Brush Kenco Brake Dust & Wheel Cleaner Brush Just to name some brands... Dont use the same bucket that you wash your car with... Use 2 buckets one for wheels and one for the body... make sure you do it when the wheels are not hot or you could damage them... same with your brakes also... and dont let the brake dust sit on your rims for a period of time as it will start to eat into your rims...
and remove/clean each wheel individually, inside and out as a means of keeping them up to scratch and more easily cleanable in the future ...????? ... :zlove: :zlove: :zlove:
Thats it Baz It may take ages to do all 4 rims but hey if you want nice looking rims inside and out and free of brake dust for a while do this... works a treat :zlove:
polishing wheels or find some kids that love fast cars and get them to do it on the promise of a ride, who said child exploitation was out of date?
