    Hi guys,
Im planning on ordering my pistons & rods soon so im trying to figure out which is the best option to choose. My plan for the build is to do it once & do it right, hence why i thought i would ask before i make the choice.

Im currently thinking of getting Carrillo H-Beam Connecting Rods Carillo Nl-VG3 ? 66070S-06 along with CP Pistons. However with the CP Pistons there seems to be more than one option available in 88mm SC7335, one being aluminium coated & the other not coated as the only difference i can see is the C added to the end of the part number.

    So my question is:

    1) Are there any better choice of rods i could get instead of the Carrillo rods?

    2) With the CP Pistons, any better choice of piston i should be choosing instead? If not is it worth getting the aluminium coated pistons or just the normal cp pistons?

    3) Any other bits i should be getting along with it as an upgrade over stock bits? Ive already got ARP bolts but ive seen the L19 version but i have also read a few negative feedback on them so not sure if i should get them or not.

    Thanks in advance,

    Abraham

How much are the Carrillo's and CP pistons?

I have the Wiesco and Eagle combo from coz was $1100 I think - does the job just fine. ARP head studs and main studs as well - just the standard ones not the L19's.

    Carillo make very good rods.

I use SCAT which are also very well made but a little cheaper.

Re pistons Carillo make very good pistons for VG30, so do wiseco, Ross, cosworth, wosner.

Other bits you can upgrade? Heaps.

These really are questions you should be asking your builder...

The Carrillo & CP Pistons combo will come to just over 2k...Rob i cant find any listing for Carrillo pistons? You got a link anywhere for them?

I'd say save $1000 and get Wiseco/Eagle combo.

May I ask why you are saying that? I read an article written by EP Racing which is one of the reasons which led me towards the CP Pistons & Carrillo Rods.

Rob I actually didn't know that as all the rods are listed as Carrillo however I couldn't find any listed for the pistons, but I've found plenty even on Coz for CP pistons...strange that they would make their rods under Carrillo & their pistons as CP pistons

CP industries aquired Carrillo Industries back in 2008.

Most engine builders will have their own preferences when it comes to component selection. Have you spoken the the person who will be building yours?

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

Wiseco have been making forged race pistons for decades and have been very successful.
Scat/Eagle/Spool and many other named 4340 forged rods are all made in China. They are proven, reliable and very affordable. Build quality is surprisingly high.

I can source the exact same rods with ARP bolts with whatever brand name I ask for engraved on them direct from the manufacturer.
On special, they can be had for around 80 bucks each and typically circa 100 each.

Carillo and Pauter stuff is supposed to be made in USA. They have a very good reputation but are pricey.
Pauter would be my personal choice of top shelf.

what do you think you have to gain by spending $1000 more on carrillo /CP at the 400rwkw level ?

sure they a step up in quality but you wont have problems with eagle/wiseco

A bad tune will destroy any rod/piston .

    .

My choice of the more expensive would be Carrillo H beam as its a stronger design although Pauter is better for windage .

400 wheel Kw wont hurt stock pistons and rods.
Its the big RPM that will hurt these parts.... and i mean BIG rpm.
Horsepower wont bother them. id rather use a good high silicon cast piston than a forged job anyday. Just me tho.

    true that

we don't need to go over 7500rpm to make serious power . :)

Comparing stock pistons to the cp's I have I totally agree but what about the fact they are so old? Does the metal fatigue?

As in NOS or well used pistons?
NOS wont fatigue but old well used ones certainly can.

Hahahahaha then new is for you.
Forged or not... its a personal choice really. Not for me tho. Unnecessary.
Rods? Well, they are so cheap new against re-working stock rods.............

Just go wiseco and eagle. Save the fancy top line crap for a 1000hp mega car.

If your gonna fork out the extra $1000 on pistons and rods are you going to do the same to cams? Heads? Porting? Crank? Studs?
