They're not gaskets Dean, they are the flanges (hence why they are so thick) :)

Did a little welding on the yesterday, This is about as far as I will go until I get the engine in the car. Time to get busy with body work!

Engine bay almost ready for primer... This man is the best auto body specialist I know, watching him work is like watching an artist. I cannot wait until he starts on the exterior, that's when the real magic happens!

I look forward to seeing it painted :)

Have you mentioned anywhere what colour you are going with?

Me too. I'm loving the rear wheel flares and want to see them painted already.

This weekend I pulled the front suspension apart again for the second time. Greg (the body man) had been working on smoothing the wheel wells out and got some spots in primer. Here's a little preview..

The engine bay is all in primer. Time for paint! Then throw all the front end back together, again!

Got the VW coil pack adapters in today! Some minor dimensional changes need to be made, but all in all I'm very pleased!

The coils do fit underneath the OEM coil pack cover too! The VW coils cost about $20 a piece. Still waiting to figure out the harness, that'll be the fun part!

The engine bay is now in paint... back on with the suspension! Body work is next!

Got everything in for the coil pack upgrade, now I just need to wire them into the harness... no more PTU!

A little more progress with the intake manifold. Smoothed out the runners.

Found some ignition coil packs from a VW that actually fit under the coil pack covers. They also don't need the adapter plates. They are more expensive though since I need to import them. Not sure what will end up being more affordable in the end.

I had a torque plate for the VH45DE made. Although it doesn't pertain to this build just yet... I thought you all would enjoy some machined metal goodness ;) It is also available for rent!

Got the passenger side flange all welded up last night. Note to self... don't drink coffee while TIG welding lol caffeine makes ya hands shakey! Got the upper flange welded as well. Then machined the runner mouths.

Sorry for the crappy cellphone pics... Upper plenum is welded on. Just need to close up the bottom, attach the throttle body flange, injector bungs and fuel rail mounts.

Cool stuff. Love checking out aluminum fab.

This may be really silly but have you thought of machining an aluminium block for the VGDETT?
