hey guys, well i drove to my friends house today, nuthing out of the ordinary been driving it like last 3 days no probs....

and i get there, wtf temp guage rose up.... to those who dont remember, about 2 weeks ago i replaced both rad hoses... no leaks in them, started pouring water into the overflow bottle when i got there, and it was just dumping out? looked like it was coming from the overflow bottle?

i was thinking that maybe one of the little water hoses has a leak and slowly drained out? iono about the overflow bottle dumping water tho... any ideas guys?

well it's definatly not holding pressure somewhere

could the overflow bottle be the reason for it all?

after i refilled the rad at his house, had the car running so could run through th water, and we couldnt spot anyleaks and it seemed to hold its level..

Was the radiator cap set to a very low pressure relief.. i.e not done up most of the way?

    goodluck

Suggest a new cap first (cheapest)

SOunds like the system is getting to a pressure, then releasing the coolant into the overflow.
So maybe a faulty cap, or something within the system causing the pressure to rise higher that it's supposed to, either just excess temperature or a blockage, air lock, or hopefully not a headgasket.

when i put the rad pipes in i completely flushed out the entire system, took over a hour... so i dont think blocks... but i guess ill try new radiator cap... hopefully works.

    cheers guys.

p.s. i checked the oil and it seems fine.

Scump I had a similar problem. In hot weather the car occassionally sh*tt*ng
itself for want of a better word. After talking to Wallards down here about it, they advised backing off the radiator cap perhaps about 5 or 10 deg max from it's totally closed position. Somewhere about the quarter inch mark back around the circumference (anti-clockwise) from fully closed.

Their reasoning is that that plastic neck of the radiator can often wear and rather than replace this straight away this fix works.

It's worked for me for the last 4000km. I do keep an eye on an aftermarket temperature gauge when it's hot. The factory gauge is next to useless for any warning. Also a bit judicous (careful) using the a/c in stationary/heavy traffic. Since backing off the cap though no more "purging" or Zed bulimia.
I too thought I had a head gasket problem until came up with this fix. Mines a TT auto. Normal day running temp low 80s. Hot day 90-95+. As soon as I show over 95 on the gauge it's off with the a/c until I get moving. Out on the open road, a/c on or off, the day temp is not an issue. For some reason these cars seem quite sensitive to using the a/c. My GReddy gauge sender is in the top radiator hose. My management of this problem has been mainly guided by gut feeling and the above operation. My car always feels happer in the 80-90 temp range.

Sounds like a good temporary measure, but 4000km over summer

ill give it a go and let you know.

i got a temp sender and some spare rad hose, think ill try chuck mine in, its for the top hose aswell... seems like i will need it.

    cheers mate.

Yes Simon.. to Lorne a couple of times, Daylesford, Barwon Heads. Very little peak hour traffic.. no problemo. Sensible, practical, low cost solutions. That's why I like Wallards. Now at somewhere else you'd have a bill the size of Mt Everest and half the car replaced. Right Lindsay

well hopefully that rad cap thing fixes it, will hopefully try it sometime soon, got a massive load on my plate at the moment so shit going wrong with my car is extremely unwanted...

if that doesnt work i guess i will have to do a plenum pull :(

    and if that doesnt work....ebay?
