Hi, I bought this car to have once I get off my p's (stupid turbo rules) so it is sitting in the garage until december. I was looking at the transmission cause i have a speedo problem to check if the sensor was still good and noticed this oily substance on the transmission, any ideas? The right side (from pictures perspective looking down to the back) seems to be dry. It seems to go from the red line down and stops just before the muffler. Is this transmission fluid? somehow leaking out of the trans?

Also while I am here. I have a lock issue, drivers side won't lock, the plastic clip is stuffed, while i was getting to that I saw that this rod was not attached to anything but has two screws on the end as if it should be, I am assuming it has to do with the locking system but don't know. Where is it supposed to be attached to if it is meant to be.

    A better view.

Finally when i got the car it came with an extra key that I can't figure out what it is for looks like a spare (can't start car with it, can't remember about locks but would assume it would use same key as the original does) any ideas. Also this black thing, I am stumped.

Help would be appreciated. Please be gentle, this is my first post (besides a wanted post for a rear JDM floor mat, still looking for one if anyone has one).

    Cheers

    leaking fluid is predator blood.
Rod that isnt attached is for an aftermarket remote keyless entry kit
Key is for immobilising the alarm siren (usually in the engine bay)

Come with a remote of any description?

Yeah it actually came with two but one remote doesn't work, the other one does tho, so it should just hang there? when you lock it moves rubbing against other rods, so it should just hang there?

Jks? helpful suggestions please, should I be concerned?

Gearbox fluid, I would bet redline shockproof oil was used and foamed out the breather.

Swap out the fluid to something else and should be right.

So what sort of fluid would i need to buy so this doesn't happen, how would I know which fluid to change to seeings how I don't know what was put into it in the first place?

A regular 90 weight gearox oil, or redline pt-90 is a popular choice. Can you check what oil is in there?

And that 2nd little key is for your alarm. Immobilizer or whatever, usually located in the engine bay.

Just swap it out then. I would bet a buck its redline shockproof thought.

Yah, fluid (or predator blood) would be gearbox oil. There seems to be allot around the speed sender which could be causing the problem (plus one more ill explain soon) so I would suggest dropping the lot and renewing it for good measure. Won't harm it, and at least you'll know its fresh.

Door questions been answered pretty well.

Now your speedo problem would be the speed sensor seen in your photos above. See how the black plastic disc at the rear of the sensor is exiting the sensor. This should be flush. The exiting of this disc can make the sensor work intermittently and as a result a speedo problem occurs. Get some two part epoxy and glue the disc back in flush. Should fix your prob.

The speed sensor was checked about a year ago by the previous owner and was found not to be faulty and the instrument cluster was soldered or something cause of a speedo problem. Could it be leaking from the speed sensor, I would have to recheck to see if it is coming from above that point. I thought the speed sensor looked fine, when i went over it with my finger it wasn't bulging past the metal surround, maybe its the picture. The speedo gets stuck at 60km/h, also my oil pressure gauge works intermittently but mainly doesn't (yes there is pressure did a check), and the right side lights of the instrument cluster sometimes work but usually not. So i was thinking it is the instrument cluster doing all of these things possibly, could i be wrong.

So i guess I will have to change the gearbox oil, hopefully this helps, will probably have to go to a mech though can't really get the car level at home :( . Something to add to my list to get it ready for Dec
