Oil leaks possible sources ?

    Greetings again fellow Zedders
Yes 6 years on I still have the Z:zlove:
Oil on the floor from under the front of the motor, rather a lot, so it seemed to be coming from everywhere, multiple oil leaks the mechanic said, so its back on the stands and the front part is off the motor, timing belt cam sprockets etc. My intention is to again (4 years ago) replace the cam seals and crank seal (front) as the rear main was done 2 years ago. I have replaced the intake cam sprockets and checked them for leaks and they look good, so is there any other place I should be looking for a leak ? I cannot see a difinitive leak from any one particular spot it's splattered all over the front and sides of the motor. The cooler is fine no leaks there or the piping to it.
I will take off the power steering pump and check it as I know it is a bit leaky, so any tips there would be good especially about effecting the hicas when removing it.
I have a compressor now so is there a way to pressurise the oil to look for leaks with the engine nicely exposed ?
I am scared to turn the crank over as the cams are idle and I dont want to hit any of the valves with the pistons, otherwise I would crank it over until pressure built to look for leaks. Looking for tips here guys....
I have looked closely at the covers from that area and all have oil on them but no clear indication from where....I had hoped to pinpoint the leaks by checking these, ho hum..

    Cheers to all.....

You are 100% sure that the intake sprockets aren't leaking? Is the back of the gear fixed properly to the gear? Can you turn it independently from the gear?

There are only a few places oil can come from, lip seals on the crank and cams, seal between the rockers covers and head, sump and block, oil filter tree and block.

I'd be having another look at the inlet sprockets.

I don't know of a way of pressurising the oil system with a compressor.

It may just be the power steering fluid though, since you said it's leaking.

    Cheers

You can remove the oil pump with the engine in, but you have to remove the sump, so that includes dropping the crossmember.

    checked today

the intake sprocks are good, had a pair that leaked before so I know what to look for and these are good, took out the cam seals, can't check them out well as ruined getting them out.... thinking maybe I will keep the covers off to spot any leaks and leave the old oil in to make spotting a leak easier, its pretty black...cleaned and degreased it all so if it leaks again I should be able to spot where...

    All fixed... Yahoo

I have replaced all the oil seals on cams and crank, fully cleaned the engine bay I can get to with all the front off, new timing belt,( my 3rd belt, getting real good at fitting it) oil filter and after a 100klm run and a couple of days in the garage no oil on the floor, dry as !!
No obvious leaks at this stage even though I am ready to strip it down again if the leak comes back, I will get some of that dye to add to the oil that shows up under ultra violet as lime green so I can pinpoint the leak precisely however I think I may have just fixed it, fingers and everything else crossed.
Thanks Chrispy for your input, look forward to the day I can see that V8 installation of yours.
The Zed lives again !!!! whoopeee.........
