Yeah whoever george is is wrong, its my car, no burnouts were involved the engine just shat the bed and was blowing rediculous amounts of smoke. have to take it to MRC on the weekend to see what the verdict is.
"Ridiculous" amounts of smoke is almost always a loose intercooler pipe. I'd check for a disconnected hose before rushing off to a mechanic...
its got a knocking sound aswell so unless the intercooler piping is flapping in the air from the fan im shit out of luck
So did you get screwed by the clenched fist of the law or what? IMO it would be just as bad getting done for noise/air pollution as it would be for 'hooning'. I guess you could only hope you get beaten up like cops did to that motorist on the news this morning- nice payout from a lawsuit. [TIS]
if you say something along the lines of "i think the engine just blew" i dont think he'd get EPA'd but i'd be suprised if they didn't give him the usual roadside "roadworthyness" test
Thats virtually what i said to him and he said that he wasnt going to give me a fine for the defect but he did red card me and was basically like well your on your own and he left the asshole. I just got back from picking the car up off the side of the road, I started it up and it sounds like the turbo is blown, The knocking i heard turns out not to have been a knocking at all but more of a seized bearing type sound but only happens at about the same time that the turbos spooled up as well as bellowing massive amounts of smoke out the ass. So time for an upgrade once i take it to the mechanic to make sure that it didnt cause any other problems, and to find out why it shat itself in the first place
Doesn't that car have HKS GT2530's? if they are damaged, they are worth repairing. Hypergear do rebuilds for $400 per turbo. PS: Dibs on buying them if you sell em'
might consider it but im thinking if i have to take the engine out to fix a turbo i may as well get something to make me a bit more power.
I'd be surprised if the turbos are the only issue, they were a brand new HKS set when the motor was assembled...
You should start a new thread. With the history of that car, there is probably not that much more you would want to do to it to get 'more power'. That being said, the history of the car also suggests that it ain't going to be a cheap fix if what you are describing is correct.
If you decide to go bigger and better, send me a PM and a price and i'll take those 2530's off your hands aslong as the housings aren't cracked
yes i want more power, and those power figures werent exactly correct, I took it to a dyno day myself just for a bit of fun and it only ran 338 RWKW so something was lost in translation there and apart from that once you have been driving the car for a few weeks you get used to it and always want more, or maybe thats just me.
You can't fake dyno charts mate. It made 375 before you bought it, fact. I'd be FAR more willing to believe something happened under your ownership then Sav lying / exaggerating. You bought it knowing it wasn't running 100%, then proceeding to thrash it, until now something broke. Sorry mate, you ain't getting any sympathy from me. The smart thing to do would have to baby it and get it sorted before it started blowing smoke signals that people in Canberra could have probably seen. MoulaZX
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Emile, but dyno charts can be faked pretty easily. However, the variance could be a low reading dyno or something else like engine wear(lower comp) or even just be on the low boost setting. Emile, your car was doing 108mph at the drags correct? Thats about spot on for the 220-230rwkw you were making, this car if its making an actual 375rwkw would be up 125-130mph......we all know the 400m dyno doesn't lie and its the only real way i use to gauge power
