Have you thought of jacking the front wheels off the ground & spinning them to see if there are any abnormal noises present?
You might even consider taking them off & having a look at your brakes & steering linkages.

Shaking on braking is normally rotors warped / inner tie rods worn or outer tie rod balljoints worn.

If it had an alignment done recently you could generally discard inner tie rods and outer tie rod balljoints as they would have been picked up in the alignment before they got significantly worse (they tend to wear down over time than just fail at once, if they did you would know it as well).

Tension rods dont normally wear as such rather they hit something and get damaged, so shaking is unusual unless the rods are loose as a result instead of bent - unlikely but possible.

Generally most things that go wrong will shake all the time not just when braking, except for the brakes and bushes that are worn on one side only.

If you were at the track and going fast and stopping fast then heat can quickly warp the rotors, especially if the pads wore down to the metal (heat builds up especially when on metal to metal) - you would normally have a scraping noise and shudder noise and it generally follows through to the foot brake shuddering as well.

Given what you said, it could be anything, including a wheel bearing but my money would be on rotor warped since you were at the track and had an alignment done as you said.

Lift the vehicle off the ground and look for play, check the rotors and pads and by then you will know whats happening.

    Inner tie rods $40
    Outer tie rods $50
    brake pads $45
Rotors - anywhere from $100 to the sky's the limit depending on used/ new or special type

Sorry, I disagree with the highlighted statement. The bushings are fluid/gel filled and they do (after 20 years) leak. I know personally of at least 5 sets that have done this (my NA, my TT, my other TT, Dodgey's TT and MichAndy's TT). I am certain there are more.

add my car to white tt to the list of cars that had tension rod bushings replaced.

didnt know they were gel filled - only got poly urethane bushes - fair enough
would explain the wearing on one side

have a spare set for sale as well

Anyone else think slightly uneven tire wear?

When I first got my Z, front shocks were stuffed. Even after replacing them & wheel alignment & balance, there was still a bit of a shake between 95 & 110.
Had a whinge to my mechanic who told me it was the wear pattern from the dodgy shocks & it would smooth out over time.

    Sure enough it did.

Apparently some brands of tire are more prone to it than others (Federal in my case).

Out of balance Tyre/Rim combinations can and will wobble like a bitch, under some braking conditions(this sometimes occurs if a balance weight has been knocked/fallen off).:br:

No matter what brand of tyre you use, they can still be out-of-balance, make sure you have them properly balanced before you attempt any serious high-speed driving/braking maneuvers.:br:
