Hi my Nexen N2000 stock size 225/50/16 have worn out on the inside rear with about 30,000km on them. Fronts are still going strong. They've been an excellent tyre and I also like the look of the tread pattern which is a V type design.

Shopping around for some new Nexens and my local Beaurepaire guy told me has the choice of Nexen CP641 or Roadstone which are also made by Nexen.
He also told me that both had the same tread pattern as the N2000s but this is not correct.

So phone the Hallam Nexen distributor and their website www.wheeldemon.com.au is down and they have no Roadstones in stock in this size only the Classe Premiere (CP641). N2000s are finished.

Found some CP641 details on Nexen's USA website... they look to be silica type (like the N3000?) but are a rotation type design not the V type tread pattern. The N2000 pattern was very similar to the Federal SS595 http://www.federaltyres.com.au/ss595

    http://www.nexentireusa.com/tires/225_50R16

Pricewise I'm getting quoted $130 fitted for CP641, $137 for Roadstone

Has anyone tried the CP641s or the Roadstone in the same size?

    Thanks John

N2000 are shit and cheap (or is that cheap shit???).

N3000 are quite good value for money. I beleive there is also a new N7000 that is better again:cool:

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

Correct Mikey. N3000's are a much better performance tyre than the N2000.

The new N7000 breed is more of a family car tyre which is less performance but quieter ride and more of an "all rounder" tyre. :)

Really? That's not what I read the other day when I was looking for new tyres - but I guess that was a sales pitch

N3000's are good. Specially in rainy day.

    Guys thanks for your replies

Any recommendations for N3000s are purely academic.. they don't come in 225/50/16 size. Personally I was more than happy with N2000s now superseded. Compared more than favourably with far more expensive brands of tyres on previous cars that never excited me much at all. Falken, Hankook Vertus K104 which were a very noisy and very dull tyre respectively.

Has anyone tried CP641 or have comment on their rotation style silica construction?

I use N7000 on my zed as its currently a daily.

Great traction :) and super quiet and very good in the wet :)

N3000s could also be on the way out... :mad2:

Thanks Fleming...I'm going to go with a couple of Nexen CP641s for the rear. The Nexen distributor in Sydney told me yesterday that not only are N2000s no longer stocked but it looks like they are dropping N3000s as well.

I did find a NZ distributor that might have both of these but the freight and fiddling around to get these over haven't go time for at the moment. I don't drive my TT all that hard so will be interested to see how the CP641s measure up.

Did ring a Federal tyres outlet and the only Federals in 225/50/16 are SS535 not 595. The 535 are a little less sporty and a little quieter than the 595. But in my case I liked the N2000s so will stick with the Nexen brand.

    I've got CP641's

There on the missus camry and I wouldn't put them on anything other than a runabout daily, cheap tyres, cheap performance, not suitable for the zed in my opinion. On the plus side they are very quite on the road.

thats a bit of a generalisation isn't it, you can still get really good tyres in that size.

I wouldn't mind a set of 18" Speedcorp wheels for appearances sake. But having had 18" wheels and low profile tyres on a Porsche I'm quite happy for ride and maintenance issues to stick with the standard wheels on the Zed.
So the CP641s are going on this afternoon. In John Brumbys Victoria we must all obey the rules... or pay the price. Thankfully in a TT you can still have a lot of fun and stay within the rules. Particularly in winter when the engine runs that little bit cooler... perhaps more like native Japan.

Looking more closely into this the CP641s have the same traction rating as the N2000s (A) and same wear rating @ 440. N3000s have an AA traction rating. The N2000s are ok except you have to be a bit careful with the accelerator in obvious places in the wet.. ie like making a sharp turn and booting it. But unless I am wrong this is part and parcel of TT ownership... that is being a little circumspect in the wet. Now if you could fit GTR R-32 4WD or a 6 speed Falcon auto gearbox..:)

Just a quick update on the Nexen CP641s... very happy with these. They've been on a couple of 1000km weekend roadtrips and once the tyre pressures are correct these are quiet and handle very well. Coming into our street when the roads wet the old N2000 Nexens would invariably spin the wheels. These CP641 don't seem to do this. So while I like the look of the N2000 tread pattern, they're no longer available and time to move on.

Still have N2000s on the front... at 32,000km they are starting to wear out so when done it will be another $260 down at Beaurepaires and 2 CP641s to go on there.

I'm glad that you find the CP641's to be a good tyre for your purposes, but I'm not surprised to hear that they are an improvement over the N2000's.
NEXEN N2000's were absolute crap IMHO, and were not in the same ball park as the brilliant(and reasonably priced) N3000 which I, and several other Z32 owners have been using with great results.
It is almost beyond belief that the N2000 was manufactured by the same company that supplies the N3000(they must have had a bad day at the office).:zlove::zlove:

Oh no, not the "im old & better" card...

They're both pov spec tyres at the end of the day so lol @ the race track comment! ;)

    What?
So it is unacceptable to give an opinion based on extensive personal experience, is it?
I don't recall mentioning the word "better" or "old", those are your fabrications, and as such, I find them offensive.:F::F::F:

BTW, we DID have race meetings way back then(my personal favourite was the Chariot with rotating blades on the wheels)you should have been there(you might have gotten a real scream out of it).:rolleyes2:

Did you find the wooden wheels better handling than those banded in iron?
I found the wood had far more grip but wore out a lot faster. The iron was heavier and more horsepower would have been nice but it was easier to drift.
The iron made a nice crunching sound when you ran over peasants as well. How I miss that sound. You young blokes missed out on soooo much.

    Cheers,
    Dave
