Absolutely. I agree it needs a clean but document it is all I am saying. Rather do it and not need the documentation than the other way round

I am keeping everything documented and imaged for insurance purposes. I will also make sure that now my claim will be updated with compensations for me personally for the time I have been left without a vehicle and found it increasingly difficult to travel to work etc.

Today the dash comes off again to take off this broken bolt. Once the new bolt is threaded through I will get my steering column all solid and finish the ignition barrel and wiring. Hopefully I can be back on the road and have the targas off tomorrow!

You're an inspiration James - good on you for the massive effort & devotion to your car. Stripping the whole interior like that, cleaning it all & putting it all back in must be a huge job which a lot of people probably wouldn't even attempt. I hope your car ends up even better than what it was before & that the insurance company does the right thing & pays up. You're obviously a motivated, strong willed person, I'm sure you won't take no for an answer - well done, great work!

Thanks guys for the comments and feedback. I never thought I would get this far. The car is back on the road and feels better than ever. The only minor issue is the front left wheel bearing is making a sound. Other than that shes a whole lot of fun again ;)

Replacing the broken bolt from hell which holds one side of the steering column up -

The bastards who hot wired my car left me with the ignition barrel plug but they cut the wires in the worst area possible -

I decided to put the new ignition barrel on to make it look like more of a car again -

Made a few calls on Boxing day, I simply couldn't wait to find an ignition barrel plug with wires that I could actually connect to my existing wiring loom. Most people were closed but before I gave up I decided to call the first Jap wreckers Osaka Imports in Knoxfield I ever purchased anything from back in the day. Luckily enough they were able to find and cut me the plug off a front cut they had sitting around. Oh this was joy!

Wired and soldered back together while touching up on my soldering skills at the same time.

Since she was on the grass on the drive way she got dirty again, especially with the black carpet showing everything. I am grateful to have her back on the road and I have her garaged until next Thursday when a new security system will be installed :)

In total I spent $80 on new locks + ignition barrel and $70 on a tow, got everything back except my steering wheel cover and have her mechanically driving fine. I will call AAMI tomorrow to touch base in regards to the claim but I feel that for what I just paid it is more beneficial than an insurance premium.

Again special THANK YOU to everyone here, good to see everything pulled through just fine in the end. I am very thankful to how this situation turned out. Huge shout out to Dean also and you other guys for keeping a look out on the parts forums and sites during the time when my Z went missing. Keep your Zeds under good lock and key guys! I am sure you don't want to get into this situation.
