    Hi Guys,

God I think I'm curst, my 1990 Z has endless problems, don't get me wrong, I love it but its killing my finances in order to get back to tip top condition. Anywayz I've notice a petrol smell from the car everytime I drive it, I don't think there is petrol leaking anywhere. Its consuming alot of petrol also. Could it be my O2 sensors, and if it is would it be easy to fix?.

    Cheers,

I would check all the clamp fittings on the fuel lines

Go around them all with a screwdriver. Can almost guarantee that's where the fuel smell is coming from. Don't miss the 2 clamps under the plenum up front between the throttle bodies (the ones that connect the 2 sides of the fuel rails)

    Fuel lines

Had the same problems dude. In fact, I think I had ALL of the common woes associated with Zed ownership. This is one of them.

A leaking fuel line is more than likely the culprit. To find where it is, let the car cool down, preferably overnight. Start it up and lift the bonnet. Have a good sniff around. This really needs to be done whilst the engine is cold, otherwise the leaking fuel will vapourise when it touches the engine and you will never find the leak.

Remember that our cars are getting old, chances are the fuel lines are perished.

Check the CLAMPS at the Fuel filter!

I had similar problem, Smell heaps of petrol under acceleration!
turns out my clamps are old and worn, didnt hold it tite at the fuel filter line, and it squirt out heaps under load.
So i changed them all new clamps!
check that first, then check thoroughly around the car, then check ur O2 sensor!

don't despair, friend .. i had the same very recently and it took two goes

to cover the field, and i am not entirely convinced that i have totally eliminated the problem .. reckon that i still get the occassional odour of ron 95 ...

as candu notes, make sure that you take off the cover over the throttle cables .. a couple of hoses hide under there ... and even if you have all new hoses, make sure that you give them all a good tightening tweak two or three times, each 2-3 weeks .. they do "seat"....!!!

Mine was the clamps at the fuel filter. Bloody hard to find though.

    New filter, hoses and clamps:thumbsup:

Check your fuel cap. Go for a drive and make a few right turns then quickly

get out and check if fuel is leaking from the cap. This was the issue on my car.
