ok, im about to mount the 6 point harness in my 2 seater, now i know how to mount the lap sashes correctly with the plates under the floor but without a roll cage what can i do to mount the shoulder straps? keep in mind this is a completely striped out racer so i can weld or bolt stuff anwhere. i've checked the CAMS manual but unless im missing something it doesn't say what to use. can anyone shed some light on this.

You are meant to use the CAGE. How come you dont have one in a stripped out racer?

Only other option is to try to find a spot where you would put child restraints and use them. They are on the floor of a 2+23 but not a 2 seater. Suggest you look at a 2+2 and weld in a 100mmx100mm plate where they are on a 2+2.

    hey mate

if you dont want to go for a roll cage yet why not have a chat to some engineering places and get a brace put in accross the b pillars, would be too hard, two plates and a bar put accross where the straps would be on the cage.

i'm going to be at autosport engineering tomorrow for a bit while my car goes through a blueslip so i'll have a chat with them and let you know.

If you have one you could mount them to the rear strut brace.

yes i know your meant to use the cage but the funds are very limited so im looking for another option till i can afford one. pretty sure i've seen someone use the rear strut brace before but wasn't sure if it would be frowned upon.

As long as the rear brace is strong enough and the harness is mounted securely you should be fine. the CAMS book has some stuff about height of the mounting points relative to the height of the seat and such too I think, that's the only other place I could see you running into trouble.

I have seen plenty of cars with a harness mounted to the rear strut brace at MSCA sprint events and they follow CAMS guidelines for that kind of thing.

    What he said.
Just make a simple rear strut brace, use the apropriate pipe suitable for a cage and weld on your attachment points for your harness.
