    hi guys,

Just a few pics to show how much we have/need to accomplish.
the last 2 owners used her as a thrash toy, and now we are returning her to her former glory as a proud 89 Fairlady Z import.

a big thankyou to all the members of the aus300zx forum for welcoming kristie and her fairlady, and a huge ty to the people whom have been so forthcoming with parts for the rebuild.

She is a work in progress and her former self (under last owner) can be seen in "kristies 300" garage (the pic of her on the front lawn)

    * So far we have removed the "pod" filter and replaced it with the stock air box.
    * we have removed the "chopped" front bar and replaced it with a NA front bar.
    * We made custom intercooler mounts and ordered new piping.
    * we have removed and done some work with the bonnet and front quarter pannels, which are now undercoated and prep'd for paint.
    * Steering was loose, custom fabricated new brackets.
    * Drivers seat broken support bar rewelded, new rails and runners fitted to comply with ADR as defect notice requirement.
    * bought a used spoiler (wing) undercoated and prep'd for paint
    * drivers door sagging (needs adjusting)
    * Replacement front windscreen (old one cracked from driver to passenger)

If anyone could throw us some ideas, we are looking at getting her registed within the next month, we hope to see a few of the sydney siders 300's when we are out and about.

by "steering loose" what did that entail? as in the steering column could be side shifted?

Sagged drivers door is common. The pin in the hinge flogs out, elongating the hole, causing the door to sag. Have read that the Passenger hinge can be simply reversed as a swap, and most will be in much better condition.

Good to read another Z being returned to a more presentable state :)

You also need new gear shifter bushings

by the look of that gear stick...

    Welcome aboard!

You folk are taking on quite a massive overhaul for first time owners, but good to see someone giving it a go.

I'm not sure why you have chosen to go back to a stock Air-box(most would see that as a retrograde step on a TT).
Similarly, the decision to fit an NA front bumper onto a car with a huge FMIC seems at odds with having such an FMIC in the first place(and I genuinely doubt that you will get adequate airflow for efficient cooling with such a restriction).
It's interesting to see the velour upholstery(must have been later model seats).
Is the pic of your rear spoiler showing a lot of reflection, or does that spoiler have a wavey(bubbled)surface? You may be 'flogging a dead horse' if it's bubbled, as it will disintegrate as sure as night follows day.
Best of luck with the restoration, I look forward to seeing the final result.

If I can be of any help, don't hesitate to ask.

    Cheers
    Lloyd:zlove:

i went back to a stock airbox on one of my TT zeds as i dont think there is any performance advantage by having a POd filter at the lower hp levels. Also with a stock airbox you dont have any of the problems you can have with an aftermarket filter, water getting in, filter material breaking down and upsetting the hotwire, even an over oiled filter can temporarily damage the air flow meter

I changed the stock airbox on my N/A and instantly noticed a difference, and it was quite substantial.

    Were your old filters shagged?

I didn't notice much on my old NA.

thats right, a pod filter will have a big difference over a blocked stock filter.

You would have seen a good result by replacing your stock filters

i noticed a difference replacing stock air box with a pod filter on my mrs z, it had new filters in the box.
    i'd say maybe about 5hp

$10 you wouldn't be able to tell +-5hp.

They weren't in the greatest condition... I was told however that a pod filter was a huge improvement over the stock box...

I was suprised to find that the stock airbox sucks air from up inside the fender walls somewhere? Got me thinking.. surely, how much air flow would there be in restricted spot like that?

I suppose there wouldn't be any water in there either though.

Ill bet a million dollars there was no noticable change or your old filters were clogged, on BOTH my NA's i noticed no real difference after changing and the only reason i put a pod in my second one was so i could fit my HID ballasts..

On topic, looks like you guys are dedicated to bringing the car back up to scratch, a quality thats rather lacking in most new zed owners. Keep up the good work, will be good to see the finished product

    haha i bet $1000.

on an N/A ? pfft. its only big HP that pods become good.
had good filters on the N/A then went to an apexi pod and it was exactly the same, if not worse as it idled horribly.

The rear wing has paint cracks but other than that no bubbles and no drama.
we been undercating all day and have the side pannels and bootlid (with wing attached) all inprimer.

The gear shift is a issue, looks like the past owner welded the knob onto the shaft.

She is in the works, we are looking at getting her to drivable standards and give her a stretch of te legs with a wagga wagga and albury run, then taking her back off the road as we start to fix everything to a better standard, just want her to fly a lil b4 we make her a glamor.

will post pics as we go!!!
