just had a thought... is there a maximum speed with the spare tyre on? i'm thinking if it were to happen on the way to Canberra...
i had to use my space saver recently... i couldn't believe it when i put some air into it... the thing just expanded like no tomorrow i looked at the profile setting on the wheel and it was 80!!... so i kept on putting air in till it was good enough. apparently it has two tubes, one sits there when flat and can still be driven on, and once u put some air into it the outer tube comes out. awsome invention those space savers :thumbsup:
Re: Plus there is a maximum distance you can drive... Not very handy for a big country like Oz. I carry a stock wheel as my spare on long trips.
I was talking to a MikeH the other day He said he had to use his brand new space saver tyre. Never been on the road before. He inflated it etc and drove down the end of the street and the side wall blew out of it. I wonder how well they last in the boot after all these years folded up and how many are infact now screwed when we come to use them.
Spare blowout.... It was ME...!! Graham was close!! Actually had a rear Falken 275/19 blow on highway near entrance to service centre. Changed to spare (never used; brand new looking tread; little low on air. Drove into servo to fully inflate spare and the thing blew the side out of the casing!! Huge BANG!!...much embarrassment! Had to leave car overnight and arrange a replacement tyre from Central Coast Rubber at Doyalson. Highly recommmend!! Fitted a 19" Michelin with about 90+% tread and balanced same for $60!!!!! You read right...$60!!
Spare tyre... OOPS....my recent post should have read 'Doyalson Tyre Service'...they were so helpful I thought I should give a correct 'plug'...
and with the space saver tyre ...make sure that you are also carrying a small compressor on board ... an ever flat space saver ain't much use if you suffer a flat out in the boondocks ...!!!!!!!!:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
