There is currently one on ebay already reconditioned. Its Dontex that is selling them. I'm unsure how much it would cost to get one rebuild. I personally would rather save up the extra and get the newer series 2 gearbox. Abraham
98+ Manual http://www.conceptzperformance.com/..._Type=NIS300&UID=20120821024207203.59.225.170 Z Shop have a reconditioned gearbox on eBay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300ZX-MA...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4169b2bf5b http://www.zshop.net.au/
What Andy posted is what i was talking about. Only the later model zeds got those gearboxes. What i would suggest is, try and find the part number for the gearbox. Then get somebody with a trade card to get you a quote, as it would be similar or even cheaper than the price listed on Coz. Abraham
Very, very very late models. 98+! I'm surprised they were still developing its gearbox that late in its life. They can't have sold too many from 98 onwards.
I would assume that people would prefer to get a brand new gearbox with upgraded internals for a bit extra than pay for their own rebuilt or a second hand gearbox. Abraham
I bought one from www.conceptzperformance.com Freight was $395, all up it cost USD $2,164.95 for the gearbox. Normally you would expect to pay customs clearance and GST but for some reason I was lucky. I could not match the price in Perth.
I was quoted $600 shipping to Perth by Z1 last week. Just got a quote from Coz, $1695 for the Transmission, $445 for shipping, $2140 all up. Eddie
Anyone know whether or not you can have them rebuilt to the late model spec? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300ZX-MANUAL-GEAR-BOX-FULLY-RECONDITION-Z32-SILVIA-180SX-/280946196315?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4169b2bf5b If this crowd are doing reconditioning at this price then it would be a good option. Even if yu have to pay a bit more for the upgraded parts?
Marcus there was only a few things that was upgraded in the later model gearbox...you could possibly get it reconditioned with the upgraded internals. Abraham
The later model box has better syncros you can get all of them for about $180 and they will fit in the earlyer boxes then you will have all the bearings on top off that, worth doing yourself if you know how to strip a transmission.
From what I hear the upgrade was a big improvement (syncro's I believe). Would definitely be worth it. I might chat to them and see what can be done.......I'll be needing one soon.
If you do go ahead with the box it would be worth getiing the heavy duty fork. http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=6707&Car_Type=300
Have you had a look at the zshop site? It looks like it has some good info but the site is so dated it makes me think is it still open?
Zshop is still running...i just assume that they dont bother updating the site...a few local members go there regularly...i personally have never and wouldnt because of what ive heard. The price seems like a good buy and if anybody is interested, then it would be one of the places to consider. Abraham
