I own a 89 TT, the motor has been completely rebuilt and is in great shape. However, the engine wont rev much past 5500 RPM. Starts sounding a bit like VW..just does'nt want to go higher.. Boost leak?
    Timing is 15 BTC..
    Compression is 175 all round
I talked to a friend who has a Zed and his revs easely into the red.
    Any thoughts?

    Faulty/incorrect spark plugs?
    Faulty Fuel Pump?
    Faulty Coil-pack/s?

adding injector/connectors and ptu to this list of Chili's start with the trick of pulling the coil connectors while idleing looking for the connector that does not make a difference to the engine lumpiness.

Where you mention "starts sounding a bit like VW" is typically an indication of a misfire.

    Problem fixed

Thanks for all the input...I found 3 problems
1..A boost leak at the inter cooler hoses...was quite loose
2..Two fuel leaks ..loose hose clamps..lucky I checked..dont want to go up in flames!
3..Got rid of the stock air filter box and installed a pod filter

Exhaust is a twin 2.5 inches system with X over

It basically was a fuel and breathing problem.:)

    All good

Revs up to 7300 RPM sweet as can be

That's strange....you didn't mention anything about leaking fuel, maybe the fuel your using is 'odourless'?
