JWT performance chip- anyone fitted one ?

    G'day all...
Poking around ebay I found JWT performance chips for our zeds from the US which claim to remove speed limiter, rev limiter to 7300(not that that would be of any performance benefit I think:confused:) and tune for up to 17psi with stage 3 mods which I believe is exhaust, air filter and higher boost. I currently run 15-16psi on standard ecu with no pinging. They reckon to have the fuel mapping better suited for modded VG's.
Has anyone installed one of these ?
Total cost including postage was only 20 bux so what the heck....the only add to that is having it fitted, something I will leave to the experts.:)
Happy new year to all !!

All these guys do is up the ignition timing in their tune and make it rich as hell so you can run high boost potentially without any pinging.

Down sides are if you run anything less than 98ron fuel, you'll be in ping city.
AND, even though you might be able to run 16psi, your power and fuel economy will actually still suffer by running such a rich tune.
You really need to spend proper dollars and get a custom tune done for YOUR car if you want to go that far. Any "generic" tuned chips are NOT recommended.

... Here's a thought, you can contact Rob (k-zed) he supplies a stock tune chip - except with increased rev limiter and speed limiter removed. A good chip to have, and no danger to your car. :)
Oh, and a local electronic technitian store will charge about $60 to desolder your stock chip and solder a socket in there for you to allow chip swaps at your leasure.

Someone fitted a JWT chip years ago....

and when we had a dyno day, they discovered they had LOST 10rwhp  from Mr Nissans original chip.

From memory, they thought the car was faster with the JWT chip but it turned out the midrange was improved giving the false impression. The dyno clearly showed a loss of 10rwhp from the peak.

Thanks guys, loks like I just ripped up $20 lol ...
Seriously though, I think I'll throw it away and wait until I can fit a tunable piggyback system and dial it in on the dyno, cost is approx 1200 for the unit + dyno charges.
At the moment it goes like a scalded cat with no probs at all and as it sits in the garage most of the time there's no rush.
    Good Zedding !

Cheers Ian, my problem was too much beer mixed with ebay and a frivolity with my meagre income. It may make an interesting corkboard pin perhaps?

    get a nistune
    200 for chip
    200 for license
    and 100 for the cable

only need to get the chip if your getting a shop to tune it (not sure which workshops do it but there are a few around)

let us know how you go!

Dyno before and after install of the chip. Cheers :) We waiting for a full report!

When it comes to power & AFR dyno figures, a Nistune is only an OEM plug-in way of doing a custom map. Same as a Microtech, Wolf3D, etc, ECU.
Getting a before and after figure will purely depend on the tuners skills - not on the Nistune unit capabilities. It's just another way of tuning your car, except a very user friendly way and also keeping the benefits of stock ECU features exclusive to our cars.

I would MUCH rather go down the Nistune path rather than dedicated A/M ECU's (for a street car anyway). But at the end of the day, you need to make sure the person tuning it is skilled. :zlove:

So a JWT ECU is the same? or is that completely different as just the chip?

jwt chip isnt adjustable in anyway, its just an eprom chip like a stock one but with altered maps/parameters. (jwt ecu would just be a stock ecu with a jwt chip I suspect)

Like ben said they just run really rich and throw some timing in, your car will pour black smoke out the tail on boost.

With nistune you can adjust ignition, afr's, bigger injectors, alter maf settings, datalog everything, hook up a wideband for datalogging, speed cut, rev cut and alot more.

I had one, at first when i put it in it got 100km out of half a tank, i was like . Ran it for a week or so and in the end i was getting 400-450k's per tank.
I had boost set to 14psi. Had no problem with it. Felt pretty much the same as my Hitech

Well if you drive around conservatively you will be in closed loop hence the good fuel economy. Different story if your driving it hard on boost the point is you can get more power with a proper tune.

Effects of running rich - clog up the cat, wear down your 02 sensors, wear out the piston rings as well (washing the cyclinder walls), diluting your oil at the same time.
