read the article! The latest edition of Autospeed has an article on modern Nissan motors, and in it there is a statement that the all alloy VQ30DET motor was fitted to the last Jap-spec version of the 300ZX. I assume this means the "2000 model Z" that had the different front bar. I hadn't heard of this before, and wondered if it was true? The comment about Martin Donnon refers to the line "Arguably better than the RB26DETT is the VG30DETT as fitted to the Z32 300ZX twin-turbo." Check the article here Edit: The article also states that the VG30DETT had ceramic turbos - search reveals pretty conclusively that they are steel, not ceramic. This error may give cause to have less faith on the VQ issue.
there are 2 all-alloy VG30DETTs in existance that Nismo fabricated for their racing car but only ever used one engine for a few races and they killed the project. Apparently the other all-alloy VG30DETT engine was up for sale 2 years ago with all the trick gear for a neat sum of $200,000.I've never heard of a VQ30DETT put into the Zed and the parts manual confirms this.
Nah not true there was no alloy VG30, and there was no VQ30 of any sort ever fitted to Z's. Turbos are steel.Ben
damn this seems like a mad article but does anyone have a copy of it i dont want to become a member just to read 1 article.
We imported one A half cut actually and it was a NA series 4 although I think it was a 98 model, and it had cast iron block like the rest of them. They made them in 2000 model but I doubt alloy. Nissan would not re tool for a model on the way out. Lots of this car is now in Stevens car.
Ahhh ! SO your saying that Jennifer>> has been around. That might explain why Steven doesn't like her out of sight. Cheers Kerry
