Just a heads up for those who are interested: Kicker DS600.2 (6" Splits) fit perfectly within the factory speaker location, including mounting the tweeter next to the 6" woofer. After extensive research, these are one of the BEST bang for your buck splits you can buy for under $200 (In terms of sound quality, bass, etc) They are referred to as shallow mount, meaning that you won't have difficulties with the speaker magnet hitting your door window. After listening to them in a 2+2 Targa 300ZX (and running off of a deck) I can honestly say that these speakers absolutely crank! I was quite surprised to see 6" split speakers perform so well, especially when only being fed 20W RMS per channel from the deck. Highly recommend!
Must admit that power rating is a bit on the low side... but sounds ideal to run them off a head unit. (40-55X4).. Good point out for those looking for a cheaper front speaker upgrade.
if you have that little extra i would say go morel maximos.. absolutely amazing speaker for its price, not as easy to install as the kickers but i will put money on the morels will sound better. for $229, speaker of choice for speakers under $300 from one of the best audio critics in australia.. http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/reviews/65_two_way_components_review_under_300/
I picked up the Kicker DS600.2 for $149 during JB HiFi's '30% Car Audio' special... Epic speakers, epic price for under $200
I found some ds650 (little bigger speaker) on eBay for around $110. But I guess with jb hifi you get warranty with it
lol I second the fusions, sound awesome and running them off a bluetooth head unit $146 streaming my iphone.. cant beat it best bang for buck and v simple to install with mic for car kit bang for buck is all good http://www.ryda.com.au/Axis-AX-1102BT-Car-Bluetooth-USB-SD-Tuner-p/ax1102bt.htm
Just because they are cheap does not mean they are 'bang for buck' Granted, most speakers sould pretty average while running off the headunit, once you introduce an amplifier then these cheaper speakers cant compare. IMO 'bang for buck' is a title more deserved by 'German Maestro'. They are run by the german company that was once the original owners of MB Quart. Adam
