Hey all just trying to get a rough price on how much this is going to cost me to fix i was involved in an accident last night so i haven't had a chance to take it to a panel beater yet.

I'm absolutely gutted about this and before anybody asks no i don't have insurance yes i know I'm a bloody idiot and neither does the other guy who was involved. :(

Any ballpark figures would be appreciated i know someone who had something similar but only on the door and it cost $1500 which im guessing they just put a new door on that was on a VE.

    Anyways thanks for reading.

Yeah, I didn't want to go into the whole insurance thing as he did ask that we didn't. But basically, it will cost way too much to fix.

Pull off the good bits, part out the rest, buy a POS for <$2000 (or a rolling shell for <$1000) and then transfer the good stuff back over.

Yeah I think it's gonna be a fair bit...I had a couple of incidents happen to my rear quarter..and they were both well over 3k each, and they weren't as bad as that, thankfully both were insurance claims through other parties...

Is it really that bad that i should scrap the whole car ? i know its bad but i didn't think it was that bad. Thanks Abraham i might give that guy a call if i decide to fix it might just have to drive it like that for the next 2 years till i can buy a TT. :(

It really depends on how much you're willing to part with to be honest. How much does that particular zed mean to you and how capable are you personally of swapping all the stuff over to another car? Is it your daily? Do you have another mode of transport?

It's not unfixable, but it'll be a pretty big chunk of money, the better part of buying a slightly scrappy TT.

If that were my TT, then yeh I'd fork out the cash for it because I'm particularly fond of it and everything is the way I want it.

    between 2 - 2.5k man.

pull out quater and sill and put another 2nd hand door on, blend door into fender, blend quater into rear somewhere.

I love the dam car but in the last week i decided that i wasn't going to spend money on it for the sake of it and that i was just going to keep it running for the next 2 years till i get off my greens sell it and use that with some savings to buy a TT.

Now i don't know what to do blow that 2.5k that il never see again and continue with my original plan or drive it like that for 2 years then pray that i can get 2k when i sell the car. :(

    Location:
    Close to the bottom
    Any damage to the sill?

If the sill is OK I would suggest cutting out the damaged section and welding in a new panel. Buy a secondhand door, small amount of filler work and then paint. She be like new. Good luck..

If it was the other drivers fault let the insurance companies sort it out. I think you are just for trouble getting it fixed and relying on them to stump up the money, A disaster waiting to happen

If he is requesting to not go through insurance he is probably at fault. If it was his fault, **** him, you dont know him and dont owe him anything.

Otherwise, the quarter panels are stupidly expensive to fix. Check out my thread where I was rear ended, purely cosmetic but written off. His insurance paid me $8k and I now have an even better Zed than when I started + old one back to use as a track car/spare parts/whatever.

I had something similar but nowhere near as bad and it was $2.5k. They fixed the existing quarter and door. Lower section of the quarter wasn't damaged like that though.

I say fix it...i personally wouldnt pay 2k for a zed looking like that...

If you fixed it then you would definitely get more than 2k if its kept in good condition and not thrashed like most P plater owned cars.

Nah its not that bad, Just go to the panel beater waving cash and say it isnt an insurance job.

They will pull that dent out. It already has a heap of bog in that quarter so its not lke it is prsitine. Loo for a used door. You should get one for $100.

For a back door non insurance job I reckon $1500-2000 would do it.

    ^^Agree with Graham :)

It can be fixed...i definitely wouldnt scrap the car because of it...

Like i mentioned earlier, go and show the zed to my panel beater Jamie...he reparied my hit and run incident damage, installed my vertical doors and did my paint job...so far LOL...he will be doing my custom Stillen rear project as well installing my fod ducts and full black roof :) very knowledgable and helpful guy :) i highly recommend him and i wouldnt go anywhere else :)

    Yer exactly What Graham said.
Id predict youd get that fixed a lot cheaper than that for an after hours cashie.
That is superficial damage and the whole lot could be pulled back and slopped up and look presentable.
Another 2nd hand door for between 50 and 100 bucks and off you go.

Try approaching a technical colledge that teaches panel beating and they may fix it for peanuts, actually teaching young panalbashers how to REPAIR panels the traditional way instedd of cutting the car into pieces and fitting new parts!

Wreck the car because of a ding like that??? FFS!
