does anyone know how to remove a glass quater panel, I tryed using a soldering iron and screw driver and ended up shattering one. isd there a special solvent to disolve the sealant, or maybe some sort of hot knife to cut through it? thanks all
Very carefully, as you found out they are not hard to break. See if you can get hold of a windscreen removal tool. Basically razor wire between 2 handles, some are heated as well. Even then it is hard to get them out in one piece.
sharp knife I used a sharp hobby knife the ones with the retractable, sectioned blades that you snap off the end when blunt. very hard and long job . Still have both windows in the shed . They have a plastic locating clip toward the rear corner, from memory. Andy
Get a price from a windscreen repairer as it might save you money ( breaking it ) . I tried to get a quarter glass out years ago and broke it very easily. You really need the the wire on 2 handles tool. I watched the windscreed bloke do the other one and there is a knack to it for sure.
Page BF-37 of the manual, helps with some detail of what you are dealing with. Seen these used with a right angle blade and a handle to yank through the sealant. http://www.getprice.com.au/Windscre...ories-Windscreen-Tools-Gpnc_264--44732744.htm
Dumb question. When you put it back on, the rubber seal that goes around the top and back of the glass quarter panel is glued to the bottom moulding. Can anyone recommend the best goop to reseal / reattach that bottom moulding to that rubber seal? Cheers.
Ill try the brake cable with the wooden handles I think, doesn't matter if I shatter it cause it's just a wreck and im just selling the window anyway. thanks heaps to everyone for all suggestions and quick reply, Ill let you all know how it turns out.
Depending on how good the fit is between the two pieces you can either go with superglue or sikaflex.
For what it's worth I would get a windscreen repair place to do it. When I resprayed my Z, I had the windscreen, rear window and the two quarter glasses removed and refitted along with a brand new windscreen for $540.
got the bugger off I ended up using the bike brake cable with wood, a stanley knife and a soldering iron, and a set of screw drivers, not an easy job but I got it off completely intact http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab327/temjin93/passengerquaterpanel.jpg thanks again everyone
front window and hatch does anyone have any suggestions for getting the front windscreen out or the rear hatch? Im thinking I might be able to use the cable method for the hatch but the front windscreen seems a little more tricky.
get a tool from supercheap, its a blade with a roller made for windscreen removal. Hatch can be done with bike wire, you will be there for a while though...
