Hey all, I'm in a pickle. My car has passed road worthy apart from the exhaust. It's too low by 5/10mm. I spoke to the guy who did my exhaust and he doesn't know how he'll get it up another few mill and he isn't avaiable till Thursday next week. I need the car passed by really the weekend. So I don't know what to do. I guess I need to raise the car a few mills, but I don't know how to do that or have the parts to do so. Can someone give me a hand in trying to work this out. Thanks, Marc.
You got coilovers? If so just wind them up a bit. Or find a roadworthy guy who isn't so anal about the height of the exhaust on a low slung sports car
u have standard type springs right? could fit some of those plastic spring spacer things or could change to standard springs and struts if need be.
This is my new car, i want it now!!! does ANYONE in brisbane have stock suspension with no leaks lying around that we can borrow for a few days?
What kind of exhaust is it? Might be easier/better to swap for a stock cat back to get the roady done?
get some insertion rubber 7-10 mm thick cut it to size and put it under the tops of the shockers fromt and rear. That should fix it till you get the road worthy. Then you can take it out. Massage the exhaust with a hammer a bit so it WILL PASS if its marginal.
Haha thanks for that guys. Yea I was thinking of going to a suspension joint and sayin what can u do to raise it up a few mill. But I like the insertion rubber idea as I have some of that.
Mate just put bigger wheels on to get the road worthy that lift the car 10mm.Beg , borrow or steal ( on second thoughts dont steal them ).But it could be a very easy way of raising the the car , i don't know but maybe some one could post what other car are the same stud patern ?. good luck Dave
Well my parents did some searching and in the Legislation for QLD cars etc. The 100mm for the whole length of the car is wrong, there is more to it than just 100mm. You take into account the distance from the axels of the car. If the object is 1m away from the axels then it has to clear a gradient of 1 in 15. Which is about 80mm for my car and the heat shielding for my cats is about 90mm. I'll let you guys know what happens and if we are correct I'll post up the article for you. But this is interesting.

Well they pretty much said yea thats prolly the case but they're sticking to the 100mm rule. So back to square 1. I can't massage the cat shields, wont make enough room. So I need some suspension to swap in for the inspection.
Confused by what you mean by a 'roadworthy' but if it is like a roadworthy inspection for an impending sale, then just go to another shop. If its a roadworthy inspection for a defect notice then they should be bound by the legislation that you have found. If it still doesn't stick, then explore the option of getting inspected at a different inspection station, then repeat if necessary.
And most likely, the first RWC shop will submit the report with the failed height issue so even if another shop passes, it will bounce on you later - probably with a penalty.
missed ur call last night marc, i have got some stock suspension here, std rears still fitted to useable shocks. and some std front springs but htey are not fitted to a strut. can you borrow some 19in wheels ? that will do it
You sure about that? They make 4 copies, 1 for their records, one for the buyers, one for the sellers and one for QLD Transport. They give the seller the 3 other copies. As soon as you have a valid RWC then any previous ones would be null and void, and even that RWC becomes null after a period of time and k's. Tell the fkheads to read the legislation and pass it, or go there with Martin and talk it through with said fkhead and convince him that everyone knows what's going on. I'd just go to another shop.
