The tempermental POS had another gearbox put in her less than 2 weeks ago cos tho other died... less than two days after she has a spak attack in the starter motor - sounded like she was chewing concrete - back to the mechanic and that was fixed - i think... there is obviously a leak somewhere cos i turn up to pick Lil Turt up from school like 'uncle Buck' just without the bang.... She drove the 21hr trip with no worries last weekend, but now she hesitates at lights, she doesn't like speed humps - doesn't want to go over them... (where i am atm i have one right as i pull out of the driveway..) I have noticed this week as well that the AMB temp is way hot but yet the temp gauge shows right smack in the middle... sitting here now she says its 41 AMB temp... Got in the poo pot to go get Lil Turt from school and she gave out one tick... that was it... poor hubby coppin 2 ph calls today i'm sure he not impressed lol (sorry Hunny) under instruction i wiggled the battery terminals a bit then started her.... All the way she hesitated and gears weren't sounding right... Can anyone shed any light on this issue as to possibilities as to what to check next?
is it missing at all ?(unusual idle, uneven, coughing sound from exhaust) my first geuss would be series 1 ptu strating to die.....
When i'm sitting at the lights.. green light i go.... she dont want to.. give her a sec to realise shes in drive and not neutral.... thats how it feels... hmmm might run the ptu thing by hubby and see what he says... i have a spare S1 ptu here with me...
Hey Ains. Trev just contacted me on facestalk. Let me know if you need a hand this weekend. I can put the ECu diagnostic on it and narrow the culprit(s) down further. Could just be a dislodged injector connector or dying PTU. Shouldn't be too serious
The more i read the OP, the more it sounds like a transmission issue, like a slipping belt or something. But, then i read about the hesitation at the lights, (at idle) and that sounds like it's back to an EFI electrical issue again. *confused now* *EDIT* Yep, the more i read Ainsley's 2 descriptive posts it keeps looking like an A/T tranny issue. Slipping belts will give these issues Ains (so will too thin of a grade oil used) (and co-incidently just after a tranny swap helps make this connection too)
Check the battery connections and alt charge rate. Agree with benny on trans issue, but I think it is being caused by a bad connection on the battery or starter itself.
my zxtt was hagging in one gear for heaps when i stomped on the gas then seem to launch into the next and then it was kicking back and forth between gears with the slightest touch of the peddle ,anyhow I cleaned the connectons and put a new plug on the Tps and now it is heaps better and smoother through the gears.
i havent changed mine Baz, havent needed to, so i've carried a series 1 just in case so it at least gets me to somewhere safe... i have a series 2 put away for me but atm that and hubby 1800k's away
Can anyone give me ideas what i can do about a transmission fluid leak?? She's being a right royal PITA atm, i dont like her right now... not impressed I've taken on board all suggestions so far... greatly appreciated but i'm not sure how i can fix her.... i dont feel comfortable driving her
If it's slipping when driving, and also having g/box fluid leaking, then it's clear that they're all directly related to the g/box installation that happened 2 weeks ago. I would take it straight back to the g/box mechanic and exlpain it all to them, and get them to rectify the problem for you, as it only happened after they did the work on it.
:rofl: unfortunately for me the mechanic is 1800k's away.... so it cant happen til march... at the rate its going it wouldnt make the trip back up... i hear ya Benny i know it should and yes its had issues since it was done.... i didnt like it when i got it back - Trev said it was good, drives fine... well coming down here she drives like crap.... one issue after another... If it is something i can get to to fix it - if i knew what i was doing then i could but i not that knowledgeable yet... getting there tho
Ains, you should contact a local member nearby to have a look over it for you while you're down this way. Might be able to shed some light for you. ...apart from this, Gavin Woods is around that neck of the woods i think?
Contact the mechanic that did the work first. He may have a mate or another shop that he knows that he would be happy for you to take it to. I would hazard a guess that it should be covered by the guys warranty, so at least striking this course of action off the list would be a good start. Unless of course you just have money to throw away I know I don't. Good luck.
It would be best for hubby to do that since he is closer, in a previous post... i am 1800km's away from the mechanic so its not easy for me to get back there in a hurry... and its not a chain of mechanics its his own business in a small town... and agreed also we didnt really have the money for this one to start with, our buckles have had to be tightened to the extreme for family reasons, but as it is the only vehicle i have to get lil turt to and from school etc then its something that needs the attention to it now. It has been organised for next weekend, hopefully theres enuf tranny fluid in her to last that long...
should you get stuck, PM me. More than happy to drop down to give it a look over for you. Not a specialist by any means, but willing to lend a hand
Keep the trans topped up with Dexron 3 fluid Ainsley, you don't want to fry it before it can be looked at. The trans dipstick is on the driverside, about 6" in from the brake master cylinder. I would pour 0.5ltr in just to be safe for now.
