ok so i was just on here reading about somone having water on there footwell and then i took my car for a drive up the servo and get a splash of water on me foot... straight away im like oh fucckkkk... my question is... is there anyother posabilitys apart from heater core? or am i now deemed to pull the dash out and do a bypass or replacement... this is really not kool coz i just got her back from having the engine rebuilt... and now this ....is it suggested i dont drive her untill this problem is fixed? and thers no in engine bay fix's i can do to stop water from getting in the cabin?
Don't drive it anywhere. You don't want another rebuild just yet. Take the heater hoses off the back of the engine and join the 2 hard pipes together with a length of heater hose. You need 19mm hose about 40cm long, supercheap etc will have it.
cheers eric. you dont feel like comin over for a wkend visit 2moro do you? i just dont wanna **** it up....
This weekend is out, but give me a call tomorrow and I will walk you through it, pretty easy to do, there might be an article in tech on heater core bypass as well.
ok no problem ill head up the road 2moro and grab 19mm hose 40cm... yea i checked the tech article out but they only really show detailed steps for replaceing it and say as an option you can get a u shaped hose and byepass it from inside near the firewall. but ill give it ago hopefully with ur help ill be fine god tho wat a pita...
Probably a side effect of having a clean cooling system that can actually flow, as opposed to how it was at approx 70% blocked with crud. The flow has dislodged some gunk that was blocking a pin hole in the core I would say. In this picture it is the large hose in the centre/top that loops back from one pipe to the other.
haha yea your prob rite... ah ok i see well looks easy enuff... eric your a great help... did you see my thanks thread in non tech called *engine rebuilt* xD
Part number for the heater bypass hose is: EA Falcon heater hose part number ED18472G Available from Supercheap
As an emergency fix you can connect those two pipes together using one of your existing Heater hoses. Simply undo the hose clamp(at the firewall)and remove the hose. Loosen the clamp at the other end of the hose and swing the hose around until it can be pushed onto the second pipe. Tighten both clamps and refill you coolant. It doesn't make any difference whether the hose is kinked or not, as coolant only flows through when the heater tap is turned on during normal operation. It can be left like this until you replace the Heater Core(I have done this on more than one occasion, so I know it works satisfactorily as a short-term fix).
You dont need to pull dash to do bypass.. do it from engine bay. There is no other source of water into the car apart from rain.. but you should be able to tell the difference by the smell.. lots of electronics under the floor mat on passenger side.. dont keep driving until you have done the bypass.
Make sure it's coolant that's leaking first. If it's water, sometimes the rubber drain hose for the A/C system blocks up, and water (from use of the A/C)collects in the A/C & heater box. Usually it splashes over to the left on right hand corners and comes out of the heater fan area, but it may also come out of the driver's side too. The hose is a small black hose that exits throught the firewall on the passenger side, just near the turbo area. You can remove the glovebox and heater fan motor and see if there's water sitting in there. I have managed to clear the blockage before by pushing a thin cable tie through the hose.
