How much do you want for said 260z?

And yeah it can be done, I saw one a couple of years ago. It was for sale by consignment at a workshop, don't know what ever happened to it...

Monster garage on fox ripped out a new 350z motor and threw it in a 120y.
I'd say you can do it.

Haha saw that one. Jessie made it into a drift bunky. Worked pretty well considering. Welded 720 rear axel fit pretty snug too.

    Fun show that.

hmmm well if all goes to plan one of the 3 260z will be for sale just kinda un sure of which one. what would you want it for a shell or a complete car i have both lol i also have a 280zx its the more chunky version of the 260z but with a 2.8 efi in it

i saw that episode aswell that lil thing is tuff.

i found on ebay a vg30de, how much roughly would it cost to turn it into a tt or just a single, maybe it would be worth just going out and spending 2500 on a half cut atleast then i get the trans with it and all the lumes and computers

I wouldnt be wasting the effort of a VG30DETT into that. It doesnt have much more power than the inline 6 ( apart from the turbo charging)

I would put an LS1 in it. Its lighter and has more power, and is more upgradable for even more power cheaply.

There was a 260z down here a while ago with one of them. It was awesome.

Plenty of room in the 260z for the V8 as well. More than a z32 even.

I'd want the straightest one! For a built RB26... I would love to buy my old 260z back (it's a nostalgia thing...) but don't have any way to contact the guy I sold it to.

But yeah if you were seriously selling an OK shell at the right price I'd be seriously interested!

Back in the day, a Leyland P76 V8 was the engine of choice for this conversion. It was an all alloy block that weighed approx 100kg less than the factory 2.6 donk(and it fitted in like it was designed to be there from the very beginning).

    I love my zed's and i love the vg30

but there is a reason a certain engine is a favourite transplant into the classic Z's

    if you have enough cash.

    rb26dett!!

or if you want better weigh distrubution(since its going to be a track car), why not a newer sr20det

I'm really starting to think the rbs26 is over rated correct me if im wrong but im spending 6-7 thousand on a rb26dett that has roughly 230kw when i can go off and buy a vg30dett for 2500 half cut and its has just over 220kw, the r34 gtr runs a 13.7 and from what i have red the 300zx tt runs a 14.1 both stock brand new 3500 is not worth .4 of a second down a straight, I have also been told that the rb26 is a high maintanice motor and im sure parts will be hard and expensive to come by where as the 300zx tt is easy to come by there is one either getting parted out or has been writen off

(i'll burn the car before i put a sr in it)

Rob260 well once the third 260z which is the one that is getting rebuilt is finished and running ill be able to tell more information on what is with the car and what isnt both of the other car's are donors atm

Comparing standard 1/4 mile times is a bit useless...

And $6-7k?? Maybe 10 years ago, can be had a lot cheaper than that these days. You can get built RB30/26's for less than that on SAU.

High maintenance? Only thing different between it and a VG is solid lifters which you might have to shim once ever.

I would go the RB26, would fit a lot easier and a good motor.

hmmm just called around and searched on the net sss performance has a r32gtr half cut for

    are your ready

8 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!!!!! mind you that is the oldest rb26dett you can buy i dont know what day n age your living in bro but a gtr motor isnt cheap

my mate is a member on sau ill get him to check the rb30/26 but i dont think that the rb is all that ppl make out it to be,
an extra 10kw im paying 5500 i can get that with a good air induction jeez

Wake up and smell the VG!!

ROFL! $8k!! You could buy a complete but crap GTR for less than that.

Just gotta look in the right spots and be ready to jump on the bargains ;)

You also have to look into how you are going to mount the motor. The VG is quite wide which presents issues with the steering shaft and actually fitting in the motor. Wouldn't surprise me if there is kits to put a RB into a S30 from the states.

Again, worry less about what the standard outputs are, the GTR is famous for the standard power output being a blatant lie. You have to consider other things like ease of fitment, getting it engineered (capacity, weight, previous motor etc). I can promise you there are more parts available from the RB than the VG, by a long shot.

listen bro i dont personally think you have done your reseached where i have called around and searched the net these motors are expensive to buy and bro i why would i buy a gtr in shit condition.... you would think a gtr in shit condition the motor would be in shit condition which means it will need a reco and i cant imagine a reco on them being cheaper then a reco on a l26 yeah soo lets soo over 3000 and lets say i buy this shit gtr for lets hmmm 5000 i have still spent OVER 8000 lmfao
your not really making a good point here bro

plus if the rb26dett was such a good motor why do ppl keep putting the rb25det in the r32's not the rb26.

I'm over argueing about this we both have our own opinion on these motors, I'm a very stuborn pig headed greek and i dont tend to change my mind once its made, plus i would prefer to stick with the z motor for my z

either way the point of this thread was to find out if any one heard of this conversion or might have some information on how to do it

You asked and an engineer (a smart bloke) who has first hand practical experience on doing engine swaps gave you his idea.

There are alot of things I don't think you have considered, you seem to have only looked at stock power figures and cost. How everything is going to fit and bolt on is a biggy, as well as your power goals as investing say 5k on upgrades will get you further on some engines than others.

To answer your question too, people usually go the rb25det as they are cheaper and more readily available.

S30 is very narrow between the rails, I would be surprised if you could fit the VGTT in and get your steering shaft around it.

Chrispy has the right plan, and as a bonus, an RB is also a Z engine. You also dont need a GTR 1/2 cut, just engine and RB25 box, loom and ecu are had easily enough on sau, ebay etc.

i have done a lil more research and it seems the vg30dett fits in the engine bay but as a few member have said the steering arm is going to be a problem but as it seems every engine swap comes with its own lil problems ill just have to deal with it apreantly this swap has already been done which gives me a lil hope knowing it can be done
