    Hey everyone,

im clueless atm, i need my zed to travel to work daily and now i need to get her up and going asap. ive got a 1989 turbo AUTO zed..

Now the zed seems to be stuck in 3rd gear, it would go up to 60k/m but would rev to about 4000ism rpm... i tried giving a little gas to get up to about 80k/m and let go of the pedal but the revs just drop to about 1000rpm.. as if its in neutral.???

ive checked the voltage on the TPS and it was set at .42 so i readjusted that to .45..and cleaned the terminals BUT still doesnt fix the problem..

I did an AUTO BOX diagnosis and got codes 12 and 17.

    12: Speed Sensor circuit fault
    17: Lock Up solenoid fault

are these two codes related to my gear changing problems? or has my box just given up??
has anyone had the same problem?? HELP HELP!! :( :( :(

    Get it serviced asap

Sounds like you're in 'get home mode' due to those faults. The solenoid pack can be replaced - book into a Tranny shop.

actually sounds exactly like my car. Your car can no longer shift into third gear, because of the overrun clutch. You can continue to drive around with two gears obviously don't drive too fast or your engine will be sitting at high rpm for too long 60-70km/h will get you around 3500rpm which isn't too bad. You basically have two options go for a complete rebuild or fit a 2nd hand box. Make sure you fit a tranny cooler with the next box you have.
    Cheers

the AT fluid is an orangey colour...

Would a transmission service fix this problem?

Does anyone know where i can get a tranny service in the northern suburbs??

What about the code 12: speed sensor fault?

Is a rebuild the only option i can undertake????

    :( :( :(

take it to a trans specialist and they will diagnose your problem.

If it says there is a lock up TQ fault. This is usually cause the torque converter itself is nackered. Not the soleniod.

If the TQ is rooted, it usually puts shards of steel and friction material through the auto as the lock up clutch disintegrates. This cant be cleaned out without a rebuild.

    Doesnt sound good. :(

Shouldn't be too bad for a second hand box <$500 most people want to flog em off after doing the manual conversion... Rebuild seems to be in the $2500+ range

LMAO, Rob, don't you think it would be better to address the gearbox problems, BEFORE visiting a "Tranny Shop".
Mark(Zed4Life) has altogether too much influence on this forum IMHO.:p:D:D:D:D

Try PM'ing Wizard re a second hand auto box. He has just done an auto to manual conversion while he had the engine out. Pretty sure there were no problems with that auto box.
He might like to recoupe a small amount of the dosh he is spending on the rebuild.:D:D:D:D
