I've been thinking about this for a while... One thing I was wondering though - There's been multiple time's I'd just look at the dash from the outside, and bend my arm inside to push it down and see how much play I have, but the dash is REALLY stiff... I mean stiff to the point that it doesn't seem as though anything will hold it down... Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this, and what have you used to do the gluing? :-Z
Sikaflex is what you need Recently done mine, get your self a piece of flat steel about 30mm wide and a few g-clamps and clamp it down flat after you have applied the sikaflex, end of problem :YD
Agreed, lots of small G-clamps .... and I used bits of plywood. I did mine with sikaflex a couple of years ago, no signs of lifting:YD :YD :YD
Is there a tech article on this at all? > I really don't want to have to take the whole dash out... =)
Yep..... and its easy Just use the glue that the guys suggest, or some selleys contact adhesive. You'll just have to be a little bit of a arm contortionist (sp?) and hold the lifting bit up, use a icecream stick or suchlike to liberally smear both surfaces - NOTE: Take care not to get any on the dash surface, it goes funny colours...... once you've got all the glue in there, just get small, clean blocks of wood, and carefully wedge these between the windscreen and the bit you've just stuck down..... leave overnight to set. Alternatively you could pull the windscreen out and do a perfect job Edit: ClickyClicky
I did mine in the first 2 weeks..... of owning the zed. That was 2 1/2 years ago and it hasn't lifted again. I bought some epoxy glue from bunnings. The sort where you have 2 barrells and you have to mix both together. Then I just used my fingers and jammed the glue into the gap, making sure not to get any on the dashboard. Once done, I used as much wood and newspaper as I could find. I put the wood planks on the dashboard, and then jammed a whole heap of newspaper between the wood and the windscreen, effectively forcing the dashboard down. Next day, good as new.Cheers
So, in the intervening 2 1/2 years... you've learned to live with your finger glued to the dashboard?
did mine ! had to pull the screen out, and araldited it down. it had lifted round the dash vents, the two long ones, and was rubbing on the screen, making noise this cost $100 and was worth it.
