Hey guys, have got a rattle coming from the gearbox area just forward of the shifter which has gradually gotten worse over the last couple of weeks. The only thing I can think of leading up to this was a slight whine coming from the gearbox which has since disappeared. It sounds like a bolt jumping around and can be heard driving up to 4k rpms and at idle when the the throttle is blipped. Occurs independant of whether the clutch is in or not.. It's not detonation and the clutch engagement doesn't feel any different since it's started occurring. Could it be bearings or synchros? Thanks in advance for any ideas of what it could be.. Cheers, Martin :zlove:
You by any chance don't have a short shifter installed? I've noticed with some of the short shifters the assembly gets a vibration omitting from the bolt on mount/support and becomes particularly noticeable at around that 4k rpm mark.
Will check it out for fouling also tomorrow! Do you have the rattle occurring under similar conditions? Just the standard shifter, the rattle seems most prominent during light load/throttle.. seems to go away under WOT. Thanks for the ideas, some good things to check
Another idea, what about the assembly that holds the shifter up into the car. Around the area where the bush usually breaks apart, resulting in the shifter dropping into the floor pan.
Thanks for all the responses, just got underneath it and it sounds like its the cats.. gave it a few love taps with a mallet and can definately hear somethjng loose. will take exhaust off and inspect when I next get a chance. Cheers!
