So i shipped my turbo center housing away to GCG Turbos. It had damage to the compressor wheel. I got a quote from them before i shipped it away, they said $450 to fix maby a little more if some plastic seal is broken, which they say can happen if something goes through the turbos. I just got a call from them saying it cost $1100 to fix. Whats going on here are they having a lend of me? what are my options. Was not expecting this, i might just bite the bullet and get a bigger turbo kit. And cut my losses.
dont ever bother rebuilding stock turbos when you can get these so cheap. http://www.conceptzperformance.com/..._Type=NIS300&UID=20100818015956144.131.180.57
Contact this guy and you won't regret it... Contact James and explain your situation. He knows turbos (including the Z turbos) back to front. Ask him about upgrade options and reliability for the Z that would plug and play without changing anything externally or requiring plumbing or different dumps etc..., he knows. Man GCG are one of if not the biggest turbo specialists in Sydney, they are extremely well equipped and experienced and well regarded in the wholesale performance industry. Not to mention over 30 years in the business. What I am getting at here is they do know their stuff. Have you asked what the $1100 is for? I understand initial estimate was $450 however it is very difficult to quote without seeing the part. They have done the right thing by updating you along the way. Graham is right it's not worth spending $1100 repairing a stock turbo.
I think you will find he was referring to the CHRA's you were quoting being stock - not the engine bud. Quoted from Coz. "Description: This is the direct replacement of center section of the stock OEM turbos. These are brand new, and exactly the same as Stock Nissan OEM. Will fit both AT or MT turbos. Sold as individual Center Housings, 2 are required per vehicle. I read this as stock OR are they R/RS spec?
Its a genuine 28r turbo. I was quoted $950 for a new center section when i first rang them up. Actually i asked them about a new center housing when they called me back, they said this quote was wrong and the 'best' they could do was $990. There isnt a lot to replace in a ball bearing unit as far as im aware. I was expecting more from such an established company. I wonder if something sus is going on. I might ring garret up and see what they say.
You can actually buy a brand new turbo for about that. http://jracing.com.au/product.php?pid=73 look at this ad. He may still have them. Dont look like they where sold. http://www.hondatech.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=3665
Turbo woes. No Mike, I had serious issues with Garrett Turbochargers at Chipping Norton, just one suburb away from GCG(must be something in the water out that way). Similar horror stories about GCG practices is what encouraged me to go direct to Garrett(not one of my best decisions).
Yeah its a breach of verbal contract. They can keep the thing. Is there any chance of this backfiring on me. With regards to the law and what not.
