Hi all. This may be a questioned asked before but I can't find an answer. So here it goes. I have noticed that almost all 300s are running the standard mundane fuel filter ( which I think looks awful and spoils the easthetics of the engine bay ). Therefore is it necessary to run the original filter or will another filter do? As long as the filtration is correct and does not hinder fuel pressure. Looking forward to answers Thanks
Exactly Dosen't matter what you run as long as it flows and filters correctly you won't have a problem. My current set up with a MSCN filter.
Yes Set up is where battery used to be (now in boot). Used to run this set up previously, but fuel was getting to hot with the pump and surge tank in the engine bay, so had a pupose built one fitted underneath the car. Oh and the fuel reg is a Sard.
You want a filter with the following qualities. Disposable paper or fabric filter element filtering down to around 10 microns. Flow rate greater than maximum injector flow rate. Pressure capacity greater than fuel rail pressure. You may be able to fit a stock or bigger Bosch/Ryco OEM filter inside the passenger side guard. Personally I do not trust no-name filters. The quality aftermarket filters are expensive. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-12308/ http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-12304/
You can get chrome versions of the oem type The original has more head space but as stated - 10 microns is what your after - how you do it is irrelevant
Thanks guys for the information. I'm currently adding some extra stopping power to the NA ie 324mm rotors braided lines sticky pads etc. When this is completed, early next week I'll then relocate the battery to the boot and will move filter and fuel lines to the battery location. After I source a suitable filter.
If you're getting the battery out of sight, move the fuel filter as well. A stock one will fit underneath the battery tray.
Anti, do you mean to relocate the rubber fuel lines to under the battery tray, hide the filter and use, say, stainless braided lines from there. Can I relocate the fuel dampener close to the filter ie move it from the position on the plenum to the position under the battery, without any adverse effects?
Yes, yes you can. Also, delete the fuel damper. Read from here onwards http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=313557&page=24
You can get a Drift filter which comes in black and looks nice...plus it has a magnet inside it which is even better...it was cheaper than a K&N filter lol so it was a definite yes for me Abraham
Anti,, do you mean the dampener closest on the left side of the plenum ( ie passenger side) may be removed altogether. What about the vacuum line. What happens to it? To be a complete pain can the dampener on the drivers side be removed also? If this is all possible,,,,,,I'm loving it! As an aside you guys may have noticed I'm a virgin when it comes to 300ZXs. I've always loved them but never owned one, till two years ago. The car was in such a great original condition that I loathed to touch it. So please forgive my ignorance. Back to the discussion. Last night I bought a filter in from Torques. I've used their products on previous cars and found them to be quite good value for money. So I'll use it for my fuel update.
Stock damper Is on the drivers side and can be removed with no ill effects, stock regulator is on the passenger side and can be removed but needs to be replaced by an aftermarket one fitted in the system to maintain fuel pressure, vacumme line will go to the new regulator.
Thanks Wizard. What is to done with the vacuum line going to the balance tube from the dampener I have deleted.
If your going to change fuel lines - consider going to PTFE - it is superior and will last a lifetime and is guaranteed not to give off fumes - it is approved for rally and racing It has a operating pressure of 2000psi and a burst pressure of 6000psi! it can also withstand temps of over 220C so it is handy around the engine - z's have a bad history of bursting into flames so it can give you piece of mind over the standard injection rubber hose lines. worth considering if your perfectionist and/ or running lines differently to the standard places -i.e. around the motor
The oem fuel filter is rated for 100 micron filtration. Any filter rated for 100 micron on the incoming fuel feed will suffice. Many choose Aeromotive because it's compact and doesn't look like a can. The fuel lines for the bay come up by the d/s frame under the brake booster if you choose to reroute. My fuel filter is located in the rear by the tank. As for the dampener, I don't use one.
Are you sure the OEM filter is 100 micron? What was your source? Typically 100 micron filters are stainless mesh and only used as a pre pump filter. The filter between the EFI pump and the injectors is usually around 10 micron.
