A few people asked to see more pics of my fuel filler set up and i have finally just gotten around to doing it. so here you go...

First the fuel filler door was welded up, and the hose/tube thing redirected to face towards the tail light

The tail light has a hinge to the centre panel and can be opened quite easily. Eventually i will probably put one of those little magnet things that are on tv cabinets that you can just press and it will pop open.

Just yesterday, my panel beater but a backing panel in so it's all nice and pretty and it stays upright. Before when i filled it up, the tube wasn't always at the right angle and i had some issues filling it up and i had to hold it with my other hand and move it to get the right angle. now it's perfect.

All i need to do now is connect the wiring for the tail light. so, i'll do that tonight and give it a good bath. She's finished.... and all fixed!!

This is what i did the other day that had to be fixed....

thats is one awsome mod. i love it.

have u got any pix of the hinge area...close ups?

this is also a very good mod for those who have sound systems blocking access to the lights....hinge them up and swing em out hehe....

    :zlove: :zlove:

I haven't taken a pic of the hinge up close cos i'm not 100% happy with it just yet. It's quite a big hinge so the gap it makes is bigger than the gap on the right side. so i'm going to replace it with two small hinges this weekend. But i'll take before and after pics on the weekend and show you both.

it's definitely a simple mod, and one you may aswell do if getting the car resprayed, cos it's not like you need any parts for it.

    How did you address........

    drainage issues???

Hi Haylz!!.......congrats on the car by the way!! Looking good!! :zlove:

Just wondering what provisions were made if you get any water penetration behind the tail light?? Obviously in order to open the light there is no form of mastic seal with the body to stop any water from getting in???

& if nothing was done??? might be worth considering???

Yes that is also on my list of things to do. i'm not sure how much water it will let in... rather than making a seal with the body i reckon i'll have to just have all the wiring covered real tight....hmmm....

Thats a valid point about the drainage, you will also have to be careful of fuel splash while filling up. The fuel smell may end up in the car by the looks of it let alone damaging that nice paint job.

    Looks great well done HaylZ

Before the backing plate was put in, it definitely let in a fuel smell, but now it is totally sealed, so no fumes can get in at all now...

well i suppose in terms of paint protection it's just as much an issue when the fuel filler is in the normal place. i'm just careful so that it doesn't spill or drip anywhere on the paint. same thing having it behind the tail light.

great mod but also curious how you will go regarding stopping water getting in. I get water behind my tail lights after a wash which runs down under the light so with the light how you have it it will surely get right inside

    very clever!!
its mods like this which set cars apart, different and functional.
don't think i'd ever do it to mine personally, but i can respect the amount of time, effort and thought that has gone into that.

if you get a chance, would love to see some pics of the hinge and with the light closed to see this gap you are talking about.
    cheers

The other thing I thought about was security. I mean, it's unlikely anyone will be able to find where your fuel cap is hidden under there, but you never know... Is there a way you can connect the opening of the light hinge with the lever next to the driver's seat that opens up normal fuel doors?

Impressive mod to set your car apart HaylZ!

Great stuff.....thats a pretty inovative idea....I know like some old kingswoods had them behind the number plate but that would be a bit hard to get around 2 on the zed. As for security the only thing is if some one like bumped into to discover walla, a fuel cap....but isnt it hard to steal fuel that way especially that most people dont have the tank to the top all the time.

Yeh havnt seen your car around sydney 2. Would like to see some good fellow zedderz car on the road and say....yep gotta love the zed. Nice work Haylz
