I've got some seatbelt problems, the retractor (if that's what it called !!?) isn't working properly and sometimes gets jammed so the seatbelt is just loose... not a good feeling !! This happens every now and again, but it seems when I unplug the seatbelt something starts working again and the seatbelt seems to retract ok... I've noticed some electrical connections in both the seatbelt reel (in the door) and the seatbelt buckle, anyone know what these do ? Do they have anything to do with the ratchet mechanism ? Cheers, Matt.
calm down this is a "feature" not a problem. if you want to get into it, take out the seat, CAREFULLY as not to pull the wires, cut the wires or unplug them from the seatbelt socket. take multimeter readings off the buckle to see if its open when seatbelted or closed (i assume it will be closed when seatbelted) then do the same with the newly unplugged connection. (maybe simply unplugging it under the seat will fix your woes) personally i like the light seatbelt feel. its like im wearing nothing at all!
But the seatbelt is really loose ! like there's about 1 or 2 feet too much so it's just draped over me really, if I did have a crash I'm going straight through the windscreen !! I'll try unplugging the connections under the seat though and see if that makes a difference, thanks  Matt.
what ive been doing is putting my finger on the button and releasing it just a bit if it gets TOO loose. each to their own.
Confused...  Are we saying that the Japanese belts have an electric retractor or tensioner? I've got a recent Japanese import and mine has a tension problem too. I'm very interested in this, please respond anybody/everybody. Cheers, Evan.
I thought ADR on belts meant they have to be changed to get engineers sign off for compliance. I assume u are still using the original belts?
as long as they are in good condition the japanese belts are fine. the "feature" is a retraction stopper, that activates when the belt is clipped in to the socket, meaning that once you put the belt on, it feels loose, no pullback. as soon as you unclip the seatbelt it should retract properly. i am pretty sure reaching under the seat and unplugging the socket's cables will stop this happening to you.
i thought my belts was stuffed i also have experienced this. its quite unnerving. thanx for the input chamelion.
so the trick dinoZ- DONT GET CAUGHT! but seriously, the seatbelts are fine, and how cheap are high flow cats anyway! if youre gonna be extreme go and buy a pair of COUGH holden COUGH v8 suited cats.
Re: I thought ADR on belts meant they have to be changed Maybe my retraction stopper is on all the time as when i go to get out the belt doesnt retract properly. Or is this some other problem?
