    Fellow Zedders,

Found some cheap strut bars on ebay (yes I think I am turning into an ebay junkie !! ) they are listed with a starting bid of $49.99, postage $20.

    Front Strut Bar

    Rear Strut Bar

These auctions have closed but should be re-listed later today.
Before you all go crazy and start bidding over each other I bid on the front one at $49.99, someone bid over me at $50.99 so I lost the auction - But I got a second chance option to buy it now at $49.99 once the auction had closed. So don't pay more than $49.99 for these !!
Also I haven't contacted the seller but it might be worth seeing if they'll do a group buy price if there's enough interest...

    Matt.

    Warning

I purchased a set of braces similar to those shown and there were problems.
The front brace did not fit on the car and was also poorly designed in that uprights from the steel mounting bracket flex.
The rear brace fitted but it would have been better if the bar was an inch or so longer.
    This also was inadequately braced.
If you are good at metal work, have good equipment and have lots of time these matters are fixable but be warned.

    they make a difference?

i only get flex driving up and down my driveway, doesn't sound good at all :(

perhaps that might have caused my windscreen to crack?

    CAREFUL...!!!

Interesting....!!! BE CAREFUL!! - I 'purchased' $380-odd worth of goods from Price653 (the seller) back in JANUARY, but despite e-mails, am STILL to receive ANY goods!!! The story was that that they all disappeared in the Honk Kong postal system!!! To date, no goods, no refund...!!
    Thanks for reminding me!!

Has anyone purchased this exact strut brace?

If so please provide some feedback on whether they are good or not. Do they make any real difference or are they just another chrome piece under the engine bay? Did anyone else have any problems fitting them?

    Strut bar

I bought the front strut bar off this guy about 12months ago, received it no problems however after several emails from me complaining that it doesnt fit he basically gave up claiming that there have never been any problems with all the other strut bars he has sold.
The first problem is unlike the photo it is alloy however its not polished.
For a twin turbo it "wont" fit without bending the bar flatter so the bonnet can be shut which then makes the bar too long. One of the brackets will then have to be cut shorter and holes re drilled to enable bar to fit. Given that its a soft alloy and flexes very easily I have my doubts if it would make any difference in making the front more ridged.

i hate ebay, will never use it EVER!

have heard way too many stories of buys gone wrong.
SOO much easier to buy local even if it cost $20-$30 more.

Re: Has anyone purchased this exact strut brace?

I got mine from this guy under 6 months ago. I got the front one in ok after disconnecting the feul lines to make myself more room. I havent had the problem wherethe bonnet didnt close, mine is the TT but its not instaled very rigid. Ive tightened as far as it will go and there is a tiny bit of movement in the brace.

In short by the sounds of things its 50-50 if you get a good one or not. They do seem cheap and look it.

I got the rear one aswell but havent installed it because my sound system took up all the room along the back seat

    Strut Brace

I purchased that exact strut brace...and they suck....do not buy them...the front will not fit on a TT unless u butcher the fuel lines. even then i dunno.

    Strut braces

Whatever you buy or wherever you buy it, the front bar should be dead easy to fit so fully check the fit before you leave the car park of the shop. This includes closing the bonnet. The designs vary but get one with some form of gusseting to minimise flex at the mounting point. The rear brace requires removal of large sections of trim to fit. Get a guarantee on a return policy in case of problems.

    Don't do it!!!!!

I bought the front an rear braces.

As listed before the rear one works - marginally and the front one doesn't fit on a TT. :(

I am currently in dispute on Ebay with the seller Price655 or something like that.

I'm spewing I bought them, Luckily I only paid $60 and $20 for postage.

by the way, anyone know of a decent metal worker to make up some strong end plates, around Gold Coast area?

The bar's themselves aren't too bad but it's the plates that let whole thing down.

I'm looking to do a group buy with Simon from TTZ for one of their front strut braces as they have engineered it so that no fuel lines have to be butchered, but they are still a bit expensive.

    Strut Braces

    You are right.
When I got mine I was so disappointed I was going to throw the lot in the bin but after cooling down I looked a little harder. The front Bar is ok (just) and if set at the correct clearance of motor and bonnet and gusseted by making a base plate that completes the circle then braces across to the top, it works. The rear is a bit short but modifying the base in a similar way to the front then it works too. 3mm flat bar and plate and good design is all you need. ( plus a drill, a welder and a grinder)

no love 4 the ebay strut

yeah i also got a front strut brace of ebay, thing fitted ok but the drilled hole on the left side of the engine was to close to the metal for the strut... so you can not get a bold on it without bending it..
so much for saving a few bucks.
