I've had this car for a long while, and I was driving it this morning when I parked it behind a nice, grey metallic Z32 (turns out this was an aus300zx member, DeMoNiKZ).
Guy got out and told me to register on the forums so here I am.

    This is my 1984 300ZX Z31.
It's been a long 3 years of problem after problem but I've finally finished the mechanical side of it.

It's done 310,000 kms (60,000 on new motor) and it still goes strong.

Things I like most about the car:

    Pop up headlights.
    Retro 80's styling.
    Sound of the meaty V6.

    Cosmetic:

    Japan import turbo rear spoiler.
    Japan import Fairlady Z badge.
Rear garnish and brakelight seperators painted white to match body colour.
Custom stereo plate to fit single din units.
Modified headlight relay (Can turn headlights on while popped down).
    Twin exhaust tips.

    Mechanical:

    Rebuilt VG30E
New sports air filter + oil
New radiator + hoses + clamps
    New thermostat
    New hosing water outlet
    New outlet water "s"
    New exhaust manifold
    New ignition leads
New injectors + plug kit adapted to rail
    New distributor
Cleaned out + welded inside inlet manifold / valley cover
    Cleaned out throttle body
Cleaned out EGR valve and passages
    Custom painted rocker covers
    Custom painted intake cover

    Future plans:

S13 coilovers slammed on it's balls.
Deep dish SSR replicas tucked under rolled guards.
    Manual conversion.
    NA2T.
Bare metal restoration and respray in panda.
    Black 50th AE interior.

Thanks kakaboy, it's been a long and painful road. It's a great car, I just wish it was more reliable at times haha.

Cheers Steve, was good meeting you. Will definately be on the next one.

Thanks :) Being a Z31, it gets all the looks of "eww, what the hell is that?" and "that's the ugliest think in automobile history" but I love it, and I've persisted with it for too long to give it up :)

Stock Z31's just lack that style.

Personally i find them quite sexy, they dont need too much done to get them cosmetically sexy.

The VG still has bite too.

So my trans is about to die, desperately searching for a manual box for this thing, but there doesn't seem to be any in SA.

Really wouldn't mind getting some wheels for it either, and I'm still waiting on my turbo lip.

Straight piped my exhaust, now it sounds pretty beastly. Get a lot of looks, lots of chicks rolling their eyes etc.

haha, stick a bunch of shoes and diamonds on it and you might get chicks staring instead of rolling their eyes ;)

Nothing like cruising exhaustless hahaha. Very nice project car you have there. A nice set of wheels and a few inches lower and it would look unreal :)

You go on any Z31 specific forums?
I recognise your nick from a site I used to use that shut down a while ago.

Hey there nice car....... I have a z31 88 Fairlady and am having a few mechanical problems. Would you know where i could get a good set of Injectors at all. And a new tappet cover. as mine is a little worn as well. I would appreciate any help to get parts for my car as the Fairlady turbo model is hard to get stuff for. I have been trying to get a complete motor VG30ET and it has been a nightmare to find so now i am trying to re-build the one i got.

Jinxed hit the spot. Used to be all over auz31club.com but the mods stopped paying for the board.

    Speaking of boards...

Got bored and so the stickerbombing began. I'm guessing this is just a "tite JDM" phase that will die out soon.

Also got some of the non ADR approved Platinum headlights. They be bright.

Also pumped some 98 octane in and more than reccomended amount of ocane booster (I'm figuring it's at 102RON at the moment) and advanced the timing.

HOOOLLYYY CRAP does it make a difference. This thing now slides out in second with the auto without really trying.

But here's a shot of the bay:

I'm glad everyone has taken some intrest in this and not just hated on it for not being a Z32, its really appreciated :)

Seen DemonicZ a few times through Gawler, when are we gonna cruise again?

As for injectors, I have no idea sorry, there's not much here.
Tapet covers are everywhere though, I know of 3 here being wrecked that still have them. Which side do you need? (Please say drivers side, passenger side is an intake manifold off job).

Been looking at how to lower the thing too. S13 struts weren't the answer, found that out the hard way. Thinking of cutting the front springs, but then the back would sit wayy too late 70's, early '80s high. I think they mak King "lows" for it, but I won't fork out $300-$400 for half an inch. I need it slammed.
