Ecu blunder!!

    Well I thought I would share this as I am a NEWBIE.
    I purchased my z a month ago of an older guy who just spent 20K on the motor, turbo's and another 5K on set-up. Got the car for 8.5K and thought it was a bargain until my first tank of fuel lasted 225klm!!. I then jumped on this site and became a member to learn about these beasts we all have and to diagnose problems with fuel consumption. (sorry to all the older members for bringing it up!) lol. Well I did the usual air cleaner change to K&N, AFM, and the like but it was still running ritch so I thought I would replace the O2 sensors, temp swith, anti knock and then get started. Well FM dead, as I went into the Tech Section to learn how to read the error codes I realized who ever tuned the car before I got it left the ECU pot in the off position!!!!! I wondered why there was no Check Engine Light on my dash.... Well after getting the 55 all systems go and leaving it on, (now have a check engine light) there is no more smell of rich fuel and the car is running fantastic, so much more response.. I would like to thank this site from a NEWBIE for all the info you can get here, I kinda feel sorry for the guy I got it off as I am certain the high fuel consumption and lack of response after spending all his hard earned on the car was the reason he sold it. Thanks again for this great site.And to all the other NEWBIES, before asking the question search for the answer!!!

    Welcome. Looks like you got yourself a great deal :D. With Zeds you never now what you are going to find. There are still plenty of gems to be found.

    what way is on and what way is off, dident know about this any link to the article u were reading on ?

    Ok, there is plenty on ECU diagnostics in the tech section but be warned, it is from a US website so when they say you turn the ignition on and turn the pot on the side of the ECU anti clockwise and then clock wise it is the opposite because the ECU is flipped 180deg on right hand drives. You will know because the check engine light and ECU flashing only work one way. You may have to re-set the ECU as well. Just search it and you will find it. There is even a video on YouTube..
