i know zweet did his, ask him, or go to an exhaust place..

is it including the front pipes aswell? or just the dumps, if it sjust the dumps you really are going to need to goto an exhaust place so you can have some front pipes fabricated up

    Hmmmm

You don't want to take it to a shop as you want to take the cats off?

I agree what mafi said, go to an exhaust place like Mettam mufflers, they are located all around perth, i have used them myself in the past and are absolutely great, and they look at installing stuff for Z's all the time, would highly recommend them :)

Hopefully they can do something to for you :)

keep the CATALYTIC Converters... or get high flow ones...

it's not like you are going to notice a HUGE gain in performance and you are keeping emissions down if you use them... plus the legalities... and fines.

    Agree with ZRATED

Any gains you get from it are minimal and the fines if you get caught are huge. If you really want to though I'm sure the exhaust place wont care, and if they do just say its for track work.

Well i guess if i don't get a huge power increse

i may as well keep them on then......

With these new pipes will i get more power? What about the sound side of things?

My zed sounded a lot throatier after having my down pipes fitted...

you can also hear the turbo's spooling easier. As for power, you should notice more low down throttle response

Re: My zed sounded a lot throatier after having my down pipes fitted...

its around 600 bucks in labour to get these fitted.. its a real PITA to do (ask matt he did his last weekend)

anyone whos done it before will be charging huge $$, anyone that hasnt wont want to speak to you again afterwards, and will probably charge you extra.. its a pay by the hour job..

i couldnt get anyone to do it for a decent price even though i was paying 2 grand for an exhaust at the same time.. so i ended up doing it myself and having my car trucked to the exhaust place (i only had dumps, not front pipes, so she wouldnt bolt back together)

decent metal cats will set you back around $400 each (you need 2)

oh, the bit that bolts to the turbo is called dump pipes and the next bit is called front pipes, exhaust place will cut and shut cats into the front pipes

i removed my dumps in an hour or so after work one day...

wasn't that much of a big job... i did have my plenum off though so it made the task a little easier! :)

    insane

no way I'll be cutting up my test pipes and putting $800 cats in only to lose hp.. these things should be government subsidised!

    can't remember where...

however i have seen results of test pipes vs. pipes with metalcat (the brand) cat converters on and it actually increase hp with them on... only marginally (1hp or something), but hey... its all good :)

    it probably increase in hp

only because it became closer to the backpressure that it's tune was designed for

from what i've read, there is no reason to want backpressure in a turbo car, and that if you drop hp then it just means that u need to re-tune it to take advantage of the reduction in backpressure

from what i've read, NA's benefit from a little backpressure (down low or up high i can't remember)

Re: it probably increase in hp

increase HP with cats.. my f'n arse.. its amazing what you read on a suppliers website

NA's need back pressure due to overlap on the inlet and exhaust valves, withoput the backpressure, some of the intake will head straight though the engine and out the exhaust before the exhaust ports close, turbo cars have minimal if not no overlap as the exhaust manifold pressure is much higher than the intake (~intake mani pressure + dump backpressure) and the exhaust would flow back into the intake charge

i paid $200 to have mine fitted including taping out 3 bolts

as they were rusted in, didnt have a happy look on his face though.

this tuning thing, after fitting mine i have less low down torque and more lag, you guys rekon it just needs tuning to get better torque and spool time down low? i suspect a vac leak, either knocked off/broken..

    * insane!

Dead right!! if anyone feels the need to lighten
themselves off $800 for wank factor cats, that make little or no difference at all to proformance! and then pay some clown a ridiculous amount to have the whole thing put together, should shurly be locked away until the impluse passes. IMHO!
