From what I heard about 2-pack, you need special equipment and ventilated/dust-free work areas (like a clean room type thing). Though if you have all that then good luck, can't wait to see how your car turns out.

What were you thinking of doing to it? Colour etc?

well i dont have a clean room but i have just/ well am about to move into a new place........the whole house is being fully cleaned and i have been working in the garage to make it spotless...........i am not looking for a completely perfect job that would cost thousands of dollars i am wanting to learn how to do it......once i can do it myself i will just keep doing it untill i am good........i just want to respray my car in the same black for now.........this is no rush as my car looks alright for now.........apart from where the clear coat on the hatch is kinda sh*t............

u have to be carefull of dust

i have a paddock basher (1983 mazda 626) as i live on a farm, anyway, i dont give a shit about the car so i thought i would paint it(the paint cost nothin, got it for free and my old man already had suffient equip) , neway i got dust settling on it, so wen it dried the paint pretty much cracked badly, i wouldnt dare resprayin my zed by myself, cause of risk of dust, but if u can get in a room free form dust, and be able to bake the paint, then yeah good luck, hope it turns out good.

dont listen to anyone about dust.. dust will never crack the paint.. it leaves lil bits of shite on the surface that will buff out.. ive painted about 6 cars in garages over the last 6 years.. just make sure your garage is clean.. wet the floor (do yourself a favour and cover the floor in black polythene (buy big rolls in building section at bunning) coz the overspray will leave a nice car size ring on your new concrete floor.

and clean between primer and colour as the air gun will blow crap off the floor back onto the car when you do the lower parts of the car

two-pac is the bomb.. but if youve never painted before.. start with acrylic.. its alot more forgiving in gun setup and application.. you do not need to bake 2-pack dont listen to anyone.. baking it just makes it dry faster ready for buffing for shops where getting the car out as quick as possible is the most important thing

im painting my zed over the chrissy hols.. pity your not in perth

One of the main issues with spraying any big job like a car is that wuthout a good extractor system. The over spray settles back onto the car as you spray. It leaves the finsh a bit sandy. But any good job should be blocked anyway.

yes you can do it but dont expect a perfect job off the gun. It will require work afterward

    paint

    piece of piss to do

you will need a decent air compressor (not those small time things)

a decent water/air separator (a good one not a cheap one as you dont want water in your paint)

at least 20m of 10mm air hose

    paint gun

    Dust mask

    paint products

    primer/thinners

    Basecoat, thinner, clearcoat

there is a few ways to paint a car, i do mine gloss off the gun

first rub back, mark any dents with a texta (fill if need be)

spray a couple of coats of primer, noting dents e.t.c, (fill these with body filler), rub back

run a couple more coats of primer, rub back with 400wet, finish with 800wet

mix up basecoat colour, 50/50 mix paint:thinner

run 3 medium coats over all panels

let dry e.t.c rub back with 400 wet, run 3 - 6 more coats of basecoat colour

let dry e.t.c, insepct job, make sure its all nice free from any debris e.t.c

mix up clear coat (most are 2:1 ) + 15% of thinner

dont make the clear run , just take it easy, i use more liquid than air, so you just turn the liquid up, and air down a bit, this will stop the overspray, if need be add a bit mroe thinner to the mix to stop the dry patches

run 3 medium coats, let it dry for about 30 mins

run 3 - 6 more medium coats, let it dry e.t.c

im in the SE from the 23/12/06 - 7/01/07

this is a rough guide on the simple how to

I've briefly read through all the posts so if someone already mentioned it then I apologise for my ignorance. You guys do realise you need proper breathing aparatus when painting 2 pack? that shit will kill you if you dont know what your dealing with. a mate of mine years ago was respraying the fuel tank of his bike with 2 pack and he copped it good. apparently really takes ya breath away and alittle on highly toxic side. good luck with your painting mate:)

2 pack polyurethane harder has free Isocynates in its solution. These are not good for your health, This is why you should use a booth for these jobs with an extraction fan.

I bought a good mask to use with this paint.
