Hey everyone Not having the best of luck at the moment with my z Gettin the dredded code 34 like a few people. Not keen on the whole replacement idea yet, i hear its a BIG job! maybe a bypass. but the problem is i dont think my z is actually detonating just have a really bad hesitation issue! Tonight went and got some petrol, drove bout 30km all fine then just after going up a hill at 100khr the engine missed abruptly and started to stuter. i pulled over and checked for anything obvious but all seemed fine just idealing very rough and almost stalling. I got the courage to drive it to a mates another 15ks away. I drove slow only hitting bout 70k's, had some sputtering every now and then but i acclerated and changed gears to work through it. anway got to my mates checked ecu still code 34. was running very rich on idle. my mate suggested could be the injectors or some watered down fuel perhaps? i had to get home so i decided to put some more fuel in at a differnt petrol station (vortex) the good stuff. i made it back without any sign of hesitation. i was going slow all the way but just before i got home i opened it up and still no hesitation. Really confused here Any ideas would be sweet! sorry such a long right up wanted to get all the info in there thanks
Hey mate, Code 34, as you've noticed is the det sensor circuit. It doesn't mean your car is detonating, in fact it probably isn't, but the sensor circuit itself is damaged (could be the sensor itself or the wiring). Check the tech section, bypassing the det sensor is a 2 minute job. Mine is bypassed and I don't need to worry because i'm running standard boost on 98 octane fuel. If you do bypass the det sensor, just be careful during the hotter days, car will be more prone to detonation since intake temps are higher. A bypass for the time being is fine, if you run high octane fuel and don't crank the boost too much. Hesitation could be a few things from broken 02s to AFM, a few members will add to this i'm sure. Good luck. -Kirill
I am not a huge fan of bypassing the det sensor except for the N/A's where there is not too much to worry about as far as engine knock goes. Here is a write-up on how to bypass the sensor...At your own risk. http://www2.zhome.com:81/ZCMnL/PICS/detonationSensor/detonationSensor.html Here is what I would do to be safe and not have to pull your top end apart... Pretty good video and information I have never seen this one before... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZoOcHtv-LI
A Recognised alternative is to REPOSITION the Det Sensor until a plenum pull is required or voluntarily undertaken. Fleet did this to My Zed when doing a 170,000Km Timing belt service and has worked fine ever since. No more Code 34 and associated problems. Although its now time for both Tune / hone the axe and Plenum pull in next 3 months Search Tech section on Reposition Det Sensor .. Its pretty easy job. just don't get a shitty sensor get an OEM or recognized one off a forum supplier .. I tried the first method (not so much tight arse just ignorance) and it was a waste of money . Good luck.
Your ecu is currently accessing the ''knock'' maps.... Do the detonation sensor bypass and that will clear the ecu error code. This is not guaranteed to fix your rough idle but it will definately eliminate one of the possibilities, allowing you to investigate further if need be. There IS another possibilty......... you may have put in some really crappy fuel the first time and actually have experienced detonation Knock sensors have been known to work one minute and not the next
