Hi guys, I thought it's about time I started my own build thread.

Been on the forum for about a year & a half now & purchased my beloved 89TT 5spd, 2+2 from ex forum member OzJustin from QLD in April 2010.

The car was previously owned by another forum member Fradda in Victoria, before he sold it to a car yard which OzJustin purchased in QLD.

I had 2 pre-sale inspections carried out by Eric (DrZ400y) & Zed4life - both of them gave me the thumbs up after carrying out thorough inspections of the vehicle.

Since then I've learnt alot about these cars - about EFI, turbo's, ECU's, intercoolers etc - coming from having owned a carby fed C3 1980 Corvette, these cars were always seen by me as very high tech & intimidating to work on even for a 20+ year old car.

But that obvioulsy didn't hold me back - I've always loved the shape & stance of the Z32's (if done properly).
To me they are the Jap version of a Corvette - rear wheel drive, targa top, 300hp+ - what more do you need? (500+hp? :D more on that later).

Here's a few pics of how she looked when I first got her - not much has changed at all, but 90% of the work that has been done is in the engine bay.

I will update this thread as time goes by with each new addition given to her - enjoy!

The car already came with a decent amount of mods -
    3 inch full exhaust
    JAPTEK sidemounts
    Unorthodox underdrive pulley
    Manual boost controller
    Tein type HR coilovers
    Whiteline swaybars
    Pod filter.

I drove it around like this for about 6 months before upgrading to a NISTUNE ECU from the last groupbuy, then took it in to Mark at MRC Dyno combined with a new Greddy profec B spec II EBC - got some pretty good results with these 2 upgrades as seen below :

yep stock auto turbos - high boost at 14 psi

Already got the HKS 2530's on there now but they're not running to full capacity due to a really restrictive set of cats I've got on there atm

Gonna go see Greg at sureflo exhaust in about a fortnight to put some 100cpsi cats on - then a full dyno and road tune by Toshi

Pics for the full rebuild and HKS turbo will be added tomorrow - work was all carried out by Eric / A2Zed.
I'm just showing the history of the car from the beginning, how it started out from when I first bought it - working up to where it is atm

    cheers

@ Andrew, careful though, lot of it comes down to health of the engine and Turbos as well. I'm struggling keep a constant 230RWKW at the moment tuned to 16 PSI.

@ Sev, glad to see you finally started a build thread up mate. Still haven't sorted out the Cats issue yet...? :(

Yeah, still haven't gotten around to getting the cats mate, but when I do, it'll be a whole different animal.

    Can't wait.

    Nice

Didn't realise this was Jorge's (fradda's) old car,
scored a lot of free stuff off Jorge after he sold the car and moved house, needed to get rid of it or it was going to the tip.
Had a brief look at it up at Pennyarv's place the other day, like what you have done with it Sev, one of the better Zeds in Sydney.:)

Once I had gathered all of these parts (over the course of approx 6 months), I drove the car up to Eric from Sydney to QLD.

I had Eric balance the rotating assembly & he also mildly ported the heads along with match porting the plenum.

Some pics from when it was in his hands -

I drove the car back from Erics about a month ago now - Eric had already done a "hard run in" & doing the 920Klms back to Sydney completed the full run in.

It wouldn't do it justice to review the performance of the new setup just yet, as there is one final HUUUGE restriction holding it back & that's the catalytic converters it's got on at the moment.

Eric called me a few days prior to me picking her up & informed me that whilst installing the new dumps, he found that the cats that are on there were some cheap & nasty ones which are apparently 2.5" in & out but necked down to 1 7/8" inside:eek: & probably about 3-400 cpsi

Still, I did give it a squirt a few times here & there (you gotta do it!:D) & the lag is maybe about 2-300 rpm more than the stock setup, however, just as the things get moving, it feels like it doesn't wanna boost any further.
Even Eric said it was hesitant to push above 16psi - all due to the bloody cats!
I've driven it at about 10psi & it feels a fair bit stronger than my old stock setup at 14psi.

I will post pics of the cats that are on there now & the new ones I'm putting in hopefully by the end of next week when it goes in to Sureflo Exhaust to get the Ballistic 100cpsi 4.5" body cats installed.
Not too long after that, she'll be going for a good & thorough road AND dyno tune.

    Will update soon.

    Cheers

Great thread but I can't understand why they're not suggesting you buy an already completed car!
That's what I copped when asking about mods.:D

Popped in to see Andrew at ASR today - am waiting on a S2 cam gear as one of them is faulty & causing excessive cam gear chatter -put in the new heavy duty JWT VTC spring & didn't help much.
Looks like I might have to live with it for a while as I'm not gonna be able to receive the cam gear in time & Andrew & I both want the car out of there as it's been there for nearly a month (waiting for parts etc) plus it's booked in for the cats on Friday morning.
Andrew told me that he's never seen an engine failure due to cam gear chatter, but also said he can't promise nothing would happen to mine- don't wanna take the risk for any probs with the fresh engine & will take back to him again in the very near future to sort it out once & for all

Also saw MR0300 there next to mine -

    Looks good.

If you can't find a series 2 gear you can always use series 1 with Jim Wolf adapters.
