The question raised is that I see guys with manual cars have put in cruise control with OEM parts. My car was originally auto with C/C but am in the process in changing to manual gearbox. Is it worth trying to hook up the C/C to the manual box? is there much difference? I read that I may need to hunt down the manual version of the C/C ecu??

    Thanks guys

The cruise control computer is a separate unit to the ECU. It has ASCD written on it (Automatic Speed Control Device) and it is in the passenger footwell where the ECU is. If yours has been removed you should still be able to find the connector.

If all is well down there it won't be hard to track down an ASCD from somewhere to stick back in there.

Sorry i may have miss wrote that. I still have it there. i just read somewhere that there are manual models as opposed to auto models of the unit itself.

Are all other parts the same manual to auto C/c?

You can wire it up so it works. When I got a manaual conversion done,. the auto electrician wired the clutch pedal to the brake pedal switch, so the cruise control doesn't over rev the engine when the clutch is depressed. Only down side is that the handbrake warning light on the dash comes on when I step on the clutch :D
This re-used the auto cruise control (ASCD) module. That's about all the info I have though, as it was done by a 'professional'.

I have never heard that before. Cruise control is certainly more common on automatics, but lots and lots of autos have manual conversions and the cruise control is usually left in just as it is. Mine is an example.

The only mod you need to make is the clutch pedal mod that Mitch mentions. That operates the cancel function and prevents you from hitting the rev limiter when you dip the clutch.

It was done by a workshop on the Gold Coast five plus years ago. In fact, cruise control would probably be pretty rare on a manual car, so if you see one it would be a pretty good bet that the car was born an automatic. Pretty easy to tell from the build plate.

I think cruise control rates up there with the wheel itself as one of Man's most useful inventions.

well thats the thing I dont want to have the buttons there that do nothing nor have to chop my wheel out and fit another. mines perfect.

Keep it. Manual shows that the clutch switch is paralleled with the steering wheel cancel button. Should be relatively easy to trace out. A properly adjusted cruise setup is quite good- holds the speeds much better in my Z32 than it does my BA Ford.

Well get yourself a non cruise control centre piece for your steering wheel. There are lots and lots of crappy wheels out there so a centre piece should be easy to come by. Only three screws to remove and replace if I recall, and the wheel stays on the whole time. :)

This. Currently doing a manual conversion too mate, but I'm lucky as I already spliced into the ASCD loom for the shift at will kit when I was running the auto box - so I sort of know which wires do what! I have just run a wire directly from the "cancel" wire under the dash from ASCD for the clutch switch. :)

It doesn't look like there is really too much to change other than this to keep the cruise working happily. :)

Ok the mod should be done for the clutch but cruise control is for cruising, like long open roads..
When you usually change up or down gears you are accelerating or decelerating so why would you have the cruise control on anyway unless you plan on driving withe the accel/decel buttons.Just turn it on when your cruising and use the brake pedal to disengage when needed. My car is a manual having been converted from an auto and I am unaware of what mods were done but have no lights staying on the dash and it works great.

    Keep the cruise...

My TT is a factory manual. However, my NA was a factory Auto which was converted to manual and still had the cruise installed and working. I used the cruise control all the time when on long drives, so when I got my TT manual, I started buying all the oem cruise components to install cruise into my TT. Thanks to forum member Dangerous, the TT now has cruise control in it, all with oem components. It works perfectly and I wouldnt be without it. So if you have the choice, keep the cruise control.

I fitted cruise from an auto to my manual - as above, all you need to do is sort out the clutch cancel switch. I've used all parts from an auto and its working fine. I used an old cancel switch from an auto brake pedal attached to a bracket on the clutch pedal .

    Brilliant on the motorway.....

Hmm. Not sure about this. I have CC on my manual TT - no evidence that it was ever an auto. (I imported it from Japan myself)

    Cheers,
    Evan.

My car is a manual with CC and when I engage the clutch the CC goes offline the same as the brake or cancel button. The only problem I have is that sometimes when I press the resume button it doesn't resume!

Why doesn't any one look into after market kits?? Their cheaper... But they dont look as good... And im sure you could integrate the oem steering wheel buttons into the aftermarket kit.
