Cooling 'problem' (long)

'92 NA aus spec 2+2 auto, 226,000 on the clock. My daily driver.
I replaced the radiator 3 months ago for a new stock one, as the car was overheating. Everything has been good since.

I fitted an Apexi pod last weekend, but haven't driven the car much since. Last night, I thought I'd take her for a bit of a run, as driving to work is literally a 5 minute drive. I drove around for a while,with no probs, then headed down the freeway for a bit of sustained 100k running.

After about 35 minutes, the temperature guage started to drop before my eyes. I pulled over as it almost hit the 'C' mark, thinking I was losing coolant. When i popped the bonnet, the engine was near cold! I could hold my hand on any part of the motor, radiator and hoses without any problem. they were barely warm. this is after nearly 3 hours of driving all up.

Drove slowly home, the guage went up to about 1/4. Hooked up datascan and went for a (careful) drive. Temp never got above 70 C. The only way I could get it up there was to leave the car idling for about 10 minutes.

Car runs and idles well. Coolant level this morning was fine. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thermostat stuck open .
also check that all your fans arn't continuously on .

Pretty much. $15 dollar part for genuine and only takes a few hours even if you are mechanically retarded.

 

Yeah, did it 2 years ago when I first bought the car....

u can get zed thermo stats from just about any auto parts store. dayco do them and theres another brand..

ask for a z32 thermostat. they will sort u out

 

Got the last one from Supercheap. about $20 I think.

Just found out the thermo fan was stuck on as well. Turned the aircon on, then off again and it stopped. Hmmmm, something else to keep an eye on....

 

thermo fan stuck on indicates defective CTS (coolant temp sensor)

 

I'm starting to think I might have to have a tech day at my place!!!

Where's the best place to get a CTS?
