Is it ok to use the white constant power wire behind the ignition barrel to power up an EBC (that I placed on top of the steering column)?

    Thanks!

Sounds fine to me. How many amps does the ebc draw?

Just be weary of the draw down and adjust the fuse to suit.

But I would say you'll easily get away with it.

The manual says 0.5amps or less. Does that mean I should put an in line fuse of 0.5amps?

no - it would blow all the time - 5 amp should be fine

NO - if you did that, it would keep blowing unless you specifically used a slow blow fuse, most auto fuses are quick blow fuses.

0.5 amps equals 6 watts power draw @ 12 volts

Offhand a general guide is to triple the figure to prevent accidental blowing of the fuse from any heat or sudden bursts of induction, so I would say that around a 3-5 amp fuse would not blow continuously and would give you some protection against fire/ short circuiting on the board, but technically speaking you may like to check online with the manufacturers wiring diagrams for the specific fuse to use (for the maximum protection of the circuitry on board the device).

Technically speaking the fuse is there not to solely to protect the device but rather to prevent the wires from melting and/ or starting a fire if the device completely fails. (There is not supposed to be a short circuit of the device itself in the first place - otherwise it would have an inbuilt fuse in the device) hence most auto fuses are5/10/15/20 amp depending on the gauge of the wiring itself.
