Hey all, I'm going to venture into clearing my tail lights. I want to do it like the ones in this tech article (without the pin stripes of course). Link to the article It says near the bottom that to get the red/pinkish look to the brake light it mentions something about being painted red. What is painted red? It doesn't go into too much detail. Also what bulbs are used for the brake lights? Just the standard clear ones or are red lights required just like how you need orange flasher bulbs for clear blinkers. Thanks, Marc.
When you pull the lights apart, the lenses will come out. Behind the lenses there are 2 "holders" where the bulbs go in which (from memory) is a very light grey. The top one has the 2 bulb places for the indicators, and the bottom one has 1 bulb for the brake light. If you simply put clear lenses in instead of the coloured ones, the red / yellow globes you use instead of the clear ones the indicators light up correctly as there are 2 bulbs to illuminate, but the brake has only 1 globe to illuminate the brake. This tends to make the red look more like a pink. To resolve this you can paint the lower holder red to make the light reflect a more red light. I tried using normal red globes, red LED globes, normal globes with red cellophane wrapped around them, etc. All ended up looking pink. In the end I gave up and went the 2000 spec rears.
mmm the plastic is not spreyed red to emit the light more red col. it was actually done to get that same kind of pinky/reddish look the 2k style lights have when just looking at them.... personally i think just leave the stock top break diffuser in there and just change the indicator one to a clear.... check my garage for some pics as its what i have done and i think it looks great...
Hmm, reason I wanted to do the top one as well was because if I look close enough I'll see the lower diffuser will have a different pattern to the top and it will annoy me lol.
